Sailcloth & yes there are two.? Not sure if there is foam the
whole length but that could help explain the stiff pull

David is your conduit PVC or sailcloth? ON our 362 the new had the
mast out replaced the PVC one with sailcloth. ?We got it from Hall
Spars and they are gone but any canvas maker or sailmaker can make
one. Ours was sailcloth folded over onto a bolt rope. ?There was a
loop at either end of the bolt rope to pull it up or down. ?We had
2 conduits one to the spreaders and one to the top of the mast.?

I replaced RG-58 last Fall with LMR-400 and it was a

For 38 years we have owned our 1986 Sabre 30 Mark III on
Lake Michigan which is "on the hard" with mast off and
scheduled for re-stepping 6/2/25. I need to replace the
VHF cable with 8X. Wondering if I have to pull top of
mast in order to replace cable or if I can just attach
new smaller diameter? 8x cable to the old VHF cable at
bottom or top of the mast and pull it through? I have
some concern about doing this if there are attachments
(for strain relief?) in the mast or if cable breaks. Any
advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Earl,
If you have RG-58 now and are replacing it with RG-8X,
they are the same diameter so you should have no trouble
with the replacement. It is very unlikely that the
either of the cables will break regardless of age.
A better coax would be LMR-400 or RG-213, but they are
both more expensive and larger in diameter.
