Thanks Dave, but I was interested in battery voltage from the perspective of overcharging. The only downside I see from Brian¡¯s system is the possibility of overcharging the battery. The 10 W panel should be the trickly-est of trickle chargers but with no controller it could in theory drive the voltage up to Voc. But, size of panel, size of battery, typical sunlight vs ideal, and only charging during daylight seems like the battery voltage would stay reasonable even at the end of a charge cycle.
