Quick question about "transmit a level/transmit b level"
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýGreetings: I'll let someone else more familiar with the radio module say something about power adjustment, but you can't do that through software. The TX A and TX B levels are for audio transmitted by the node. BTW, TX B isn't wired to anything on a SHARI, so you can ignore it.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý? I was wondering if I can lower the power of my node? ? Hmm, it is already putting out very low power¡ you could put the shortest rubber duck you can find on it, and limit it¡¯s reach that way¡ ? ? I'm assuming it's done via the sa818 programing in option transmit level, but what's the difference between transmit A level and? transmit B ? I thought TXA and TXB were in SimpleUSB? Anyway, they affect audio level coming from your node, not power output, and TXB won¡¯t do anything. ? |
The RF power output of the SA818 module used in the SHARI products is about 1 watt on high power and 1/2 watt on low power.? This is selected by a jumper to ground conncted to a pin on the SA818.? We ground this pin in SHARI,? While the RF IC used in the SA818 has a way to lower power via a register setting, NiceRF has not implemented this capability in the firmware of the SA818 so power out can not be changed by software.
In SHARI. the 1/2 watt output of the SA818 is routed through a low pass filter which has about 1 dB insertion loss so the nominal output is about 400 mW.? Steve - N8AR |
If you wish to reduce power... and you're that intent on doing it for some reason.. like you're on the 20th floor in NYC... then an SMA 3db ( or more) attenuation can be used at the antenna.. 3dB would take the ERP to 200mW, (6dB to 100mW) 6dB would also reduce the receive sensitivity bay about 1S unit.
Not totally off topic...... but a further comment about those wishing to QRO their SHARI... Saturday.. with a new Baofeng AR-5RM on my belt I got in the car and drove about 1/2 mile to help a friend. My SHARI sits in the ham shack on top of a 4 drawer file cabinet. My home is a log cabin on 25 acres. The Saturday morning net started up and I could hear the net even though my HT was on my belt down by the seat belt inside the car.. ? With the SHARI at 400mW I have no problem hearing or using my shari anywhere on my 25 acres and beyond.. The Shari has a "stock" 2 inch antenna and the Baofeng has 6-7 inch antenna, So 1/2 mile with one antenna in a car is good. Once outside of the car the SHARI was Full Quieting.? Mind you my home is on the prarie ranch land in Kansas.. The AR-5RM is a new Baofeng, much improved. Has 999 channels,AIRBAND... and 222mhz.. plus a USB-C charge port on the battery. It has a FCC ID: and a pair of them on Amazon was $53 delivered to my door step.. Larry W8LM- |
