Yes, purchase the RT Systems software, if you need a file with current repeaters in the network and elsewhere.

I bet, given my own limited experience, most would agree with Randy here. $25 for the software package.
?
RT has an import feature where you can tell it to use repeaterbook or a few other sources given a location like Bexar County and then RT can auto-format the file to the FTM 500. You can import the whole shebang it pulls from the internet? or copy/paste and edit the repeaters/frequencies you are interested in. (Options 107-109 in the radio are for working with the sdcard for formatting, import and export.)
?
RT also allows you to manage 'most' of the settings you would find by long pressing the function knob.?
?
I held off on RT for a while, but it really is well thought out software. You'll need a (there are many options) and a

Hope that helps too.

I agree with everything Josh has said. I would like to add 2 more benefits that I have used.
The RT Systems software backs up your settings and my case when my radio lost everything from its memory, the software restored all saved data instantly. In addition, Ray System actually has real live support personnel you can actually talk with.?
I now use RT System software for all on my radios.

I have an ft-70d also. (No sdcard in that model, yes.)

The Yaesu programming software will work, but RT must be better! The Yaesu software works, but isn't versatile at all.
?
If you use the Yaesu software, you can boot the radio to adms mode with a usb connecting a computer and the radio. (You'll have to youtube that procedure if you want to go that route. Super easy, but requires holding buttons while powering on.)
?
RT has a special cable that, as I understand, acts as a form of copyright protection if you use their software. (I can make the 70 do what I need it to without RT, but I might upgrade there as well )
?
Again, hope that helps. Youtube has a few easy to find tutorials there.

Or buy the cable and software (I have a cable for every radio I have)? It simplifies the process, you just connect your computer once you build the file and upload to the radio, no SD card needed.

So, the best solution might be to bring your radio, or if installed, bring that vehicle to the next SADRC meeting.? I know at least a few of us have the software and cables and can put the frequencies onto your radio.? If you let us know you will be there I am sure that Doug or I or someone can accommodate getting you set up.? Best would be if you buy the cable and software and bring your laptop if you have one and we can install it on your computer, load the frequency table, and then upload to your radio, then you have the capability of making changes in the future or having someone else do it for you.?
