Picketpost Star Party Friday 05/02
We are planning a star party this Friday (05/02) from about 7pm 每 10:30pm. Sunset is 7:11pm and the moon will be 32% illuminated and sets at midnight, this will impact viewing deep sky objects in the early evening. You can check out the moon for a while. Eventually the moon*s impact will lessen as it drops in the western horizon and its glare fades into the Phoenix city glow. Observers should park on the West side of the parking lot so we don*t disturb the imagers who tend to congregate at the North of the parking lot. No further post concerning this event will be posted here. Make sure to check out the EVAC OUTINGS page for the latest updates and driving instructions. Additions resources on the page include: May evening Sky Map (PDF) List of potential objects for the evening in multiple formats (PDF download , Excel download and Sky Safari Pro download) Driving Instructions Observing Etiquette No White light 每 Make sure you have a red-beam flashlight. This will preserve you night vision. Back-up Your Vehicle 每 Park your vehicle so you don*t have to backup when leaving, this will help cut down on the time it takes to leave and minimize lights from your vehicle. Minimize Laser use 每 It*s okay to use lasers, but use them only briefly, remember there are imagers close by and we don*t want to ruin their exposures. Observers, park in the West section of the parking lot so we don*t disturb imagers who congregate in the North section of the parking lot. Music/Alcohol 每 Alcohol is not allowed on the premises; Music is generally frowned upon. Be Kind 每 This is a great time to meet others; Introduce yourself to your neighbors, but please keep conversations away from politics, religion or other controversial topics. Hope to see you there. Star Party at Picketpost this Friday (04/25)
I am planning on heading out to Picketpost this Friday. I should be out there from about 7pm to 10pm. You are welcome to join us. You don*t have to have equipment to join us, most of us are all happy to share what we are viewing. Remember, it can get COLD at night in the desert, so dress in layers. Latest Status Updates, Driving Details, Maps and Observing list are located on the EVAC Outings webpage. If you do decide to join us, please remember a few things: Latest Star Party Status - Make sure to check the EVAC Outings page to make sure the star party hasn*t been canceled for some reason (weather). Final Decision is usually posted by 1pm on Friday on the webpage. Driving Instructions 每 Can also be found on the EVAC Outings page. The page also has a link on it to check road closures, so make sure to check that also before leaving. Park at the appropriate location 每 You can park, anywhere you want, however generally Astrophotographers park in the North East end of the parking lot, and Observers park in the West side of the parking lot so we don*t disturb the imagers. Arrival, Parking and Departure 每 Please don*t use bright lights when in the parking lot. Ideally you should arrive before it gets to dark, and Back-up to park so you can just pull out to exit and won*t disturb other astronomers to much with car lights. Also, if possible, use your parking lights to exit the parking lot (if you can do so safely). Lighting 每 Use Red lights when possible and avoid using White Light. Also don*t shine your light in other peoples face (even if it is a red light). NOTE: I NO FURTHER UPDATES WILL BE POSTED HERE, CHECK OUT THE EVAC Outings webpage for the latest status and information. Comet P/2025 (F2 Swan 25f) is rapidly brightening, and may be visible immediately following sunset. We were able to locate it last Saturday. Be warned, comets are extremely fickle, and the window to identify it is very short; about 50 minutes between sunset and when the comet sets. That means that it just might be visible in the western horizon. Comets are best viewed with binoculars, bring them if you own a pair. It should be close to Triangulum constellation in the North West. ? More Information on location, orbital elements and projected light curve can be found here. ? Download the orbital path chart here (PDF) Download the April Evening Sky Map (PDF) from skymaps.com here. Lab Handout - This will be the final lab for our beginner*s class. You are welcome to download our observation list for the evening. The focus of this lab will be a wide range of astronomical targets that are bright enough for most small telescopes. Select Here to download/view the PDF document. Hope to see you there if weather allows! James Yoder

Star Party at PicketPost Trailhead this Saturday (04/19)
Since this Friday is the Monthly EVAC meeting, We are targeting Saturday (04/19) for our star party. We will be arriving about 6:45pm, Sunset is at about 7pm. This should give us plenty of time to setup and be ready to try to find the comet (see below). Comet P/2025 (F2 Swan 25f) is rapidly brightening, and may be visible immediately following sunset. It is estimated to reach magnitude 5 by the end of this month. Be warned, comets are extremely fickle, I'm guessing that it may be about magnitude 6 by Saturday evening if we are lucky. That means that it just might be visible in the western horizon. Comets are best viewed with binoculars, bring them if you own a pair. It should be very close to the star Mirach in the Andromeda constellation. In all likelihood we will not be able to see the comet, but you never know! ? More Information on location, orbital elements and projected light curve can be found here. ? Download the orbital path chart here (PDF) Download the April Evening Sky Map (PDF) from skymaps.com here. Lab Handout - This will be the Third lab for our beginner*s class. You are welcome to download our observation list for the evening. The focus of this lab will be a wide range of astronomical targets that are bright enough for most small telescopes. Select Here to download/view the PDF document. Remember check the EVAC Outings page to get the latest information on the star party along with driving instructions. Hope to see you there! James Yoder

Hyman Rim Ranch Star Party Announcement (09/18 - 09/22)
Hello, We are currently planning a star party at the Hyman Rim Ranch, located about 1.5 hours North East of Payson in Bortle 2 skies at an elevation of 7,400*. The event is scheduled to start Thursday (09/18) afternoon and end Monday (09/22) morning. The location has limited space for tents, RV*s and campers. Check out more details on the site and event on the EVACS Outing Page here. We are in the early planning stage for this event, so please keep in mind details may change. This will be our third star party at this location, the last two were a great success. In the previous years we had to limit the attendees to less than 25 persons at any given evening, but we plan on expanding how many folks will be allowed to attend. We are trying to gage the interest and type of persons who might be attending (ie observation vs Imaging). If you are interested in participating in the event please fill out This short 8 question survey by Next Friday 04/18. If we do run into capacity issues, preference will be given to those who fill out the survey first. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions Thanks! James Yoder Jty.Astro@...

Hyman Rim Ranch Star Party 每 Call for presenters
East Valley Astronomy Club is sponsoring a Star Party at the Hyman Rim Ranch, located in North Eastern Arizona on the Mogollon rim in Bortle 2 skies. The star party is from Thursday, September 18th to Monday Morning, September 22nd. This year we plan on having astronomy related presentations during part of the day and are currently looking for folks who would be interested in making a presentation. Generally, we expect presentation length would be 30 minutes or 60 minutes unless someone would be interested in providing a workshop (where we will work out days/times). We are open to topics. One of the topics we hope to cover is Astrophotography image processing. One of the ideas we have for this would be to provide the presenter with master image and have them process the images for the audience. We are looking for presenters for Siril , Astro Pix Processor and PixInsight. While presenters will not be given money for their presentation, they will not have to pay a fee to attend the star party. If you are interested in presenting, please email me (James Yoder) at jty.Astro@... Thanks!
