Hyman Rim Ranch Star Party Announcement (09/18 - 09/22)
Hello, We are currently planning a star party at the Hyman Rim Ranch, located about 1.5 hours North East of Payson in Bortle 2 skies at an elevation of 7,400’. The event is scheduled to start Thursday (09/18) afternoon and end Monday (09/22) morning. The location has limited space for tents, RV’s and campers. Check out more details on the site and event on the EVACS Outing Page here. We are in the early planning stage for this event, so please keep in mind details may change. This will be our third star party at this location, the last two were a great success. In the previous years we had to limit the attendees to less than 25 persons at any given evening, but we plan on expanding how many folks will be allowed to attend. We are trying to gage the interest and type of persons who might be attending (ie observation vs Imaging). If you are interested in participating in the event please fill out This short 8 question survey by Next Friday 04/18. If we do run into capacity issues, preference will be given to those who fill out the survey first. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions Thanks! James Yoder Jty.Astro@...

Hyman Rim Ranch Star Party – Call for presenters
East Valley Astronomy Club is sponsoring a Star Party at the Hyman Rim Ranch, located in North Eastern Arizona on the Mogollon rim in Bortle 2 skies. The star party is from Thursday, September 18th to Monday Morning, September 22nd. This year we plan on having astronomy related presentations during part of the day and are currently looking for folks who would be interested in making a presentation. Generally, we expect presentation length would be 30 minutes or 60 minutes unless someone would be interested in providing a workshop (where we will work out days/times). We are open to topics. One of the topics we hope to cover is Astrophotography image processing. One of the ideas we have for this would be to provide the presenter with master image and have them process the images for the audience. We are looking for presenters for Siril , Astro Pix Processor and PixInsight. While presenters will not be given money for their presentation, they will not have to pay a fee to attend the star party. If you are interested in presenting, please email me (James Yoder) at jty.Astro@... Thanks!

Astro- modification
Hello. Amateur photographer here, trying to get into astrophotography! I have an extra Rebel T7i Body, that I would love to astro-modify and use to capture night sky picture with my sky watcher mount. Has anyone here had experience with astro-modification!? Would anyone be willing to help me with it?

Star Party at Picketpost Trailhead Saturday (03/22) weather permitting
Hello, Just a heads up that we will be having a Star Party at Picketpost Trailhead this Saturday 03/22 starting at about 6:30pm and going to about 10pm. NOTE: There will be no further announcements on the Star Party here, all updates will be posted on the EVAC Outings page (See below). Please make sure to monitor the EVAC Outings page for Detailed information including driving instructions, and confirmation that we will be going out (based on weather forecast) as the week progresses. The Renaissance Festival is still ongoing, so plan on some traffic; probably an extra 10 -15minutes drive time. Also, a reminder that this Friday, 03/21 EVAC will be having its monthly meeting. This month’s guest speaker is Dr. David Williams who will be discussing the NASA Psyche Mission. Check out the EVAC website Events & Meetings page for details. Observing Etiquette Parking – It is recommended visual observers park in the West area of parking and the astrophotographers park in the North East area of the parking lot ( See the map on the outings page). This way the observers won’t disturb the imagers as much. No White light – Make sure you have a red-beam flashlight. This will preserve you night vision. Back-up Your Vehicle – Park your vehicle so you don’t have to backup when leaving, this will help cut down on the time it takes to leave and minimize lights from your vehicle. Minimize Laser use – It’s okay to use lasers, but use them only briefly, remember there are imagers close by and we don’t want to ruin their exposures. Music/Alcohol – Alcohol is not allowed on the premises; Music is generally frowned upon. Be Kind – This is a great time to meet others; Introduce yourself to your neighbors, but please keep conversations away from politics, religion or other controversial topics. James Yoder

Star Party at Picketpost Trailhead Friday or Saturday
Even though current forecast for this weekend is a bit sketchy, I hope to head out to PicketPost on Friday or Saturday evening (Based on cloud coverage). I should be out there from about 6:30pm to about 10pm. You are welcome to join us. You don’t have to have equipment to join us, most of us are all happy to share what we are viewing. Make sure to check EVAC Outings webpage for current plans. Also for driving conditions, the Arizona Renaissance Festival is going on and traffic due to this event can add an extra 10 or so minutes to your driving time. Remember, it can get COLD at night in the desert, so dress in layers. If you do decide to join us, please remember a few things: Latest Star Party Status - Make sure to check the EVAC Outings page to make sure the star party hasn’t been canceled for some reason (weather). Final Decision is usually posted by 1pm on Saturday on the webpage. Driving Instructions – Can also be found on the EVAC Outings page. The page also has a link on it to check road closures, so make sure to check that also before leaving. Park at the appropriate location – You can park, anywhere you want, however generally Astrophotographers park in the North East end of the parking lot, and Observers park in the West side of the parking lot so we don’t disturb the imagers. Arrival, Parking and Departure – Please don’t use bright lights when in the parking lot. Ideally you should arrive before it gets to dark, and Back-up to park so you can just pull out to exit and won’t disturb other astronomers to much with car lights. Also, if possible, use your parking lights to exit the parking lot (if you can do so safely). Lighting – Use Red lights when possible and avoid using White Light. Also don’t shine your light in other people’s face (even if it is a red light). NOTE: I NO FURTHER UPDATES WILL BE POSTED HERE, CHECK OUT THE EVAC Outings webpage for the latest status and information. Hope to see you there if weather allows! James Yoder

Both he and Kevin Schindler have been involved with the North Rim Star Party and will be volunteering again this year. Enjoy, Steve Rottas ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Dean Regas <deanregas@...> Date: Wed, Feb 5, 2025, 15:51 Subject: Pluto Love Feb 11 To: Steve Rottas <srottas@...> Steve, I wanted to extend another free invite to my next online class to membrs. Feel free to share this internally. Pluto Love Tuesday February 11, 7pm Eastern Pluto, everyone’s favorite planet, dwarf planet, or kuiper belt object. Whatever it is, people love Pluto (even grumpy astronomer Dean Regas). Dean shares the history behind this oddball object and flies you closer to explore the misunderstood world and welcomes special guest Kevin Schindler from the Lowell Observatory (where Pluto was discovered). To join that night use this link and pass: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/81359838969?pwd=C9HewPAdwPccH1E5NoGnoJKZX97DkW.1 Pass:440169 I'll make the recording available to you on the 12th so it's no problem if you can't attend live (although it's a lot more fun). Keep Looking Up! Dean -- Dean Regas, Your Astronomer Host of the Looking Up podcast https://www.astrodean.com
