For Sale, various cars and parts

I have a set of 6 BN covered hoppers and 1 CN Lifesaver Covered Hopper plus some detail parts and a set of 70 and 100 Ton Smoky Valley Trucks for sale as I'm going to have to move and need to downsize.
?
CN Covered Hopper I'd like to sell for 50$, the other covered hoppers for 35$ each, trucks and parts for 50$.? Would be willing to ship the whole set at a discount.? I have never taken them out of their boxes.
?

Please advise if the CN hopper has hi-rail or scale wheel sets. Thank You

I want to point out to everyone on this list that virtually any freight or passenger car can be re-configured as scale or hi rail by changing the wheels - at worst, swapping out the trucks. That¡¯s why the NASG website¡¯s Product Gallery mushes together scale and hirail; kits can be built either way and S Helper Service cars have both wheel and coupler styles right in the box.

For these particular Lionel-produced covered hoppers, if you see a paint scheme you like, buy it - they¡¯re nice cars. You can buy a set of Lionel trucks from Lionel (only sold separately with hirail wheels, I believe), swap trucks, and sell the ¡°scale¡±version to a fellow modeler. Some people have also swapped out the trucks for American Models hirail roller-bearing trucks.

The same is true for most diesel-electric locomotives. Steam engine are the biggest challenge, both in the difficulty of conversion and the availability of parts. And some are just impossible, because the drivers are too close to accommodate hirail flanges.

But cars are very straightforward.

Jim, wasn't there an issue with the Lionel bolsters, or is that for a different series?
Someone produced a new 3D printed piece for them?

Except for the car¡¯s last catalog listing or two, the car was too high off rail head. ?I made a 3D printed replacement truck bolster that fixed that issue. ?It was mostly a concern for modelers using Kadee 802 or similar couplers and draft gear. ?Lionel changed the truck to fix it in the last catalog listing(s). ?

Another fix was to replace the AF trucks with AM, SHS/MTH or S Scale America trucks. ?

I like the rotating bearing ends, which is why I wanted a way to fix and keep the trucks on the cars.
?
The bolsters are still available. ?Go to my Benn Central Shops Facebook page to find out more.

I converted 5-6 of my AF covered hoppers with Ben's bolsters and was very pleased with the result.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I've got at least 5-6 of these and like them, as it is a prototype otherwise not available in S scale.? They go well mixed with PRS ACF cars, as well as the newer resin kits from Ben Trousdale.??
I ended up with the three Canadian schemes, but pretty much all the others I've bought have been stripped (a royal pain) and relettered.? A few of the stock schemes seem correct, but the "heritage" schemes probably appeal more to the AF operator types than to me.?

Great, but where do you get the bolsters? Anyone have the source.

Charles, read the whole thread! From Ben Trousdale, who is on this list.

This bolster will not work for cars made in the last run (or two) where the trucks were changed to lower the car.

And almost all of the ones with scale wheels are the wrong gauge.? Ben's bolsters fix that issue as well.? Alternatively, you can modify them a bit and use SHS/MTH or AM trucks.?

The wheels need to be pulled. ?Spreading the axle at the insulator will cause the axles to bind.

Just checking,? interested in two of the BN Covered Hoppers.? Do you still have any?
