Keeping kleen!

开云体育

For a lot of years I've been work'in one the railroad, but the heavy work of dealing with the table saws, routers and the like has been reduced and likewise so has the sawdust they caused.? When I built the train-room I used a large red Sears shop vac to great advantage for a lot of that period.? Later a smaller unit was added, then again after that an even smaller unit plus a small carpet type vacuum has helped along the isles.? Now I find myself looking to go even into the sub-miniature class.? Most of my needs are a single hole in a finished area where I'm not wanting to spend the time dealing with hoses, cords, big batteries and misplaced attachments.? Just like a war effort--a surgical strike is called for.

So I've started my search on Amazon, since they always seem to have an overwhelming choice.? What if any, are you Suzie homemakers using!

Re: Shapeways closed

Wow!
I found lots of things on Shapeways that interested me--especially the S-scale GP38 and C420 that have been mentioned here and in our magazines, but none that pushed me over the edge to purchase. ?No knock on the designers, it was the high upfront cost of the prints and shipping that scared me off. ?
So, when an amazon prime special on a Photon anycubic SLA printer came along last father's day, I made the jump into making 3d prints for myself. ?I suspect my own personal journey multiplied on a national scale is what did Shapeways in. ?As the cost to purchase a personal 3d printer came down, Shapeways became less and less viable. ?I do sincerely hope that the designers that had their creative work on the Shapeways website can share their work on another platform, and perhaps monetize that effort by selling the design files for home printer use.

As for my 3d printing misadventures, one print in 4 is a success. ?However, each time I learn a little more about what works, and what doesn't. ?I have found lots of things available on the thingiverse website that can be used for our layouts. ?Most of the things have to be tweaked and rescaled, but if you need 1:64 vehicles, they have you covered!

I'm (hopefully) attaching a photo of some of my prints. ?While they look like print failures, these were the successes--there are a whole range of "junk" cars. ?As a kid growing up I spent a lot of weekends at the local "pick-a-part" with my dad as he acquired parts that he used to work on various vintage cars. ?So having a small junkyard on my layout was something I always wanted, but never really had the means to accomplish affordably until now.

?
Last minute edit: It appears the shapeways website is back up and running, but the chapter 7 press release is out there

Overland F-7 Drive

I just bought a set of Overland F-7's where the drive shaft on one truck slips; I own one of the River Raisin repowering kits and am wondering whether it is worth the trouble of replacing the original drive.
Thoughts?? Advice?

Most do not know about my dormant domain. I actually think it is an awesome name.

This was just as Shapeways was becoming known. I have 2 printers for a while. 1 was a real piece of junk. The FORM1 was not much better. Taking the full time job was the right decision at that time.

Re: Shapeways closed

Can't say I'll shed any tears.? Thanks for the timely news though, I was just finalizing my Harrisburg NASG Convention clinic script on 3D coil steel cars.?? I'll have to remove the sentence: "I am not a fan of Shapeways", from the script!? The following came from a different 'io' group and pretty much sums up my experiences and opinion...

"I’m not at all surprised. They shipped my last “free shipping” order via UPS (UPS charges exorbitant brokerage fees to deliver to Canada), plus they used the wrong HS Tariff code (plastic parts) instead of the correct scale model code, resulting in a stiff duty on the order. They then refused to resolve the issue, even on future orders, so I informed them that I would no longer be ordering through them. I also made the exact same point that Jason just made: they are no longer the only game in town..."

Life goes on...

Yes John,? the copy I had was mimeographed with the drawings mixed in--might have been some kind of Christmas thing.? I tossed it in one of my cleanups I supposed!

Good Evening List Members,
While going through back issues of the S Gaugian Magazine I was trying to determine when its first issue was published; finding out the magazine was in several formats from the 1960’s to its final issue. While looking at the cover of my oldest copy from May 1972 and reading the fine print on the that states:”A-fine publication for a fine gauge”. How appropriate in my mind. Don Heimburger and his pursuit of giving S gauge with a passion. With that thought in mind I am curious if any list members would be willing to offer copies of the older issues of the magazine. Please feel free to contact me off-list. Thank You in advance for your assistance.

Attention all Reading Fans--BBB

开云体育

Last evening I was able to acquire a fairly large stash of Reading photos along with a few nearby RR's.? Most are well printed Color images 8 X 11 and many pages of 2 or 4 smaller shots in clear album pages.? None are creased or have damaged corners.? Wild guess indicates 100-300 total # of shots.

There are a wide variety of shots--, cabooses--lots of AF cabooses. wood sided, wide visions etc into the Conrail era

Power --Trainmasters, RS's, SW's, Baldwins into the GE era

Some rolling stock--mostly box cars.

Somebody spent a lot of time putting these collection together.

First $25.00 plus media shipping can have everything!

I have worked on the Mutt loco on and off since my last post. After the side rods are done and installed I started to break in this part of the assembly. As I installed each driver in the frame I made sure there was no sticking or binding. Once all of them were in and I was happy with the free rolling of the drivers with the frame plate tightened. I started installing the side rods one driver at a time making sure no binding was? occurring with each crank pin screw. Once all the crank pin screws were installed, I began my break in period.?

Back in the old days I would use toothpaste. Today I use a buffing compound used to remove 1200 grit scratches from Urethane clear coat. By coating the axles and crank pin sleeves with the micro compound and rolling it in my hands polishing all the moving surfaces to a slick finish. Now I do this for hours and hours. I use to run the mechanism on the bench over night in one direction then the other. But I have cooked motors doing that and have gotten away from that technique. Rolling it in my hands I can feel any minor or very slight bind and can address it at that time. As a Cardinal baseball fan I enjoy the game and roll the mechanism on my leg and in my hands the whole game. Passing it over to my wife for her to roll in between her hands and analyze the free flowing drivers. She can detect defects as I get use to feeling them.?

The polishing compound is water clean up. So a tear down of the mechanism is required and at that time since all the soldering is done to the frame and drivers they get painted. I have also competed the cylinders. I found a set of cylinders but they were one of my rejects due to a bad casting on one side of the cylinder. I cleaned up the defects the best I could with out misshaping the cylinder side. After that I made the inspection plate and soldered it on the sides of the cylinders and it hid a lot of the defects. After that I drilled and installed the drifting valves on the top of the cylinders. Then painted along with the drivers.?

While I was painting I went ahead and painted the loco pilot truck and tender trucks prior to their assembly.
