Re: River Raisin B&A tender
Recall that the 2-8-4 was Lima-designed, even marketed with a demonstrator. The basic tender is not unique to B&A; the B&M T-1a that followed shortly after used a tender of the same design, slightly elongated (two additional vertical sets of rivets between the coal bunker and the rear.) One could possibly, but perhaps not likely, find other uses among other contemporaneous Lima production.
I would be very surprised to discover it used on non-Lima locomotives, unless it was a tender swap. Earl Tuson |
Re: River Raisin B&A tender
The tender is one of two versions that RR had for the B&A Berkshire's. I have no idea what it could be used for. I only have the foamed cardboard wrapper, no RR box. When I bought it Dan did not have box for it.
it has backup light with plug hanging out the front of the tender. Dan said the tender is DCC ready.

I just tried to add 3 additional photos but they did not add so I'll try again.?

Perhaps a J-1 Hudson?? Possibly an L-2 Mohawk?? So far as I know, no H-10's ever operated on the B&A, nor Niagara's.

I'm pretty sure it was the Berkshire, one of the last RRM imports (C&O 4-6-2 with perhaps SP variant were probably the very last).

What locomotive did this come from?? And what existing brass loco could be paired with this as a B&A engine?

Can't help you with the decals, but when it comes to the T&NO, I fully get having interest in that SP subsidary. I've ended up modeling the unit in the attached pic.
?
The model is currently at the Sound Guy I use for a Tsunami2 installation, but upon its return, the factory painted Stewart model will be modified to reflect the #181 and will used as lease power to power the "Gravel Turn" on my Kansas City & Gulf Ozark Subl layout.
?
The T&NO subsidary of the SP was an interesting tidbit.

Re: Modern SP locomotive headlights
开云体育A quick google I found this on Trains website.Southern Pacific placed multiple sets on a locomotive, with the upper clear lights between the number boards used in daily service and a red Gyralite in the nose that automatically activated in situations such as when the train’s air brakes was placed in emergency. Other railroads had similar setups, though many would simply use a single red or clear bulb, or in a two-headlight case, either two clear bulbs or one clear and one red, using the former in train service and the latter in emergency situations. Most of the other search results mentioned the emergency aspect and letting oncoming train know there may be a derailment. I used to have 4-5 SP books by Joseph Strapac that described each class of engines and the specific uniqueness for each group of engines. Each year had a focus on a specific group of engines. ?I believe I had one for 1973, 1977, 1978, and 1980. ?Should have kept them. Michael Osweiler? Modern SP locomotive headlights
I have a question about Southern Pacific modern locomotive headlights.? ?I just purchased an American Flyer Legacy Southern Pacific GE U33 C.? ?It is a very fine model and runs great.? ? The forward head light configuration is two white headlights above the windshield vertical.? ?Two white headlights in the nose horizontal.? ?On the roof above the over windshield headlights is a single red light that blinks (strobes?).? ?I also have an EMD SD 40-2 in brass with non working headlights.? This I will fix someday.? ?The white head light configuration on the SD 40-2 is similar to the U33 C.? ?The red light on the SD 40-2 is centered above the nose headlights.
? ? ?I assumed the red light was for when the loco was rear facing as an end unit DPU.? I bet someone out there knows everything about these lights.? Can you enlighten me ,? please?

K4 SP Decals

At? the suggestion of other list members, I'll be ordering a set of the K4 SP boxcar decals, just to get the T&NO parts.? Otherwise, I pretty much already own all the SP rolling stock I'll ever want.? Would a more serious SP modeler like to split the cost and
take the rest of the lettering?

Re: FS: BTS MA&PA #42 2-8-0 Semikit
开云体育As most of you know, I've walked
backwards into situations with estate items or just the recently
departed. & their Family matters? Most have been equitable and
fair dealings.? The hick-ups have been both good and bad.? We had
an older guy join the Houston S group.? We had done some rail
fanning together and I sold him some items from a moved-away
member--mostly AM & SHS items, of which I helped him with
Kadee couplers being attached!
He passed a couple of years ago.? The
family rented a train show table and sold nearly everything HO, (I
didn't know he owned that much) right at that time. His S? stuff
went via a local list with only my basic suggestions.? Later on
his son stopped at another show and gave me Dad's only brass
model--A Gold Coast SP caboose that I had arranged for years
earlier.? The problem I've had? is that the Troxell children gave
me one of Jack's favorite engines , a SP F-5 that he had
started/messed with!? Then I was given this caboose and suddenly
I'm a SP modeler!?
Since these were great friends; I
wanted to honor their friendship on my layout so they'll be
staying long term.? Our well known "Brass Brasher" helped with a
couple of missing screws and the proper lettering, so with a WOW
decoder inside, it's now a proud member of my roster with a proper
caboose on the rear!
Obviously this really just postpones my
own RR life span!? I'll perhaps let somebody else deal with that!
? They tell me that you can't double park a U-Haul trailer between
headstones--they are not permitted!

Yes, there are quite a few situations where the [usually] wife either dumps the late husband's trains, literally in the dumpster or to an aggregator for pennies on the dollar, or keeps them for a family member, who may or may not really be that interested in
them.? I'm aware of at least a few instances where S scale went to a family member, only to appear somewhat later on ebay.
You might consider mentioning to the son—unless you know him to be as interested in trains as his father (which I'd assume you'd know from your friendship with his father)—that if he was willing to sell you some mementos from the collection because of your
long friendship you'd appreciate them.

"S"peaking from experience, I built the 42 from the kit, it
was not the semikit. A friend of mine- now deceased- paid for the kit and built the tender. As a result he became an S
scale modeler and went on to build a nice, operating layout
without scenery, and bought many S Helper items and built many structures himself. Back to the loco, after I finished and painted it, he flew to St Louis and helped me pack my rr stuff, clean up the house
and rode to Northern Virginia with me and Sport the family dog. During the road trip to Va I asked him to gift me the loco when he passed.
That happened in late Dec 2024. His wife told me he said? to give all the trains to his son. I kept my mouth shut, went to the funeral and forgot about the #42. I have a couple of photos to share when I dig
them out. It is a very good runner as built and looks great.

Re: Westerfield S scale Boxcar

It is not just ebay: I bought a very well assembled Kemtron Wabash Mogul (O scale) from a Stout auction where the tender was in another, mostly On3, lot.? I bid on the other lot, too, of course, but others wanted the On3 in it rather more than I did; I asked
Stout to tell the high bidder on the other lot he had a buyer for the odd item, but nothing ever came of it.
While often sheer ignorance by the seller is not intentional, sometimes I suspect stupidity and greed (the two are usually related) lead to?
misleading information in the listing.? And often there is a blanket disclaimer that the seller has no knowledge of the condition or completeness and the buyer assumes all risk.? ?That has not prevented the seller from putting a ridiculously high opening
bid price on the item, fearing that he would be missing out on untold riches otherwise.

Yes. You have to discern carefully.? Some items are sold by family or estate outfits or somebody who simply have no knowledge of the hobby.? This is where you see steam engines posed with the "coal car" backwards.?
Or perhaps brass engines and tenders sold separately.??Sometimes they used the "sell similar" choice and something incorrect was carried
over from a previous listing that was correct for a prior item, but not this one.??
When I see something that I am SURE is wrong, I message the person and politely let them know.? Usually, they are happy to correct it.? After all, correctness helps get it sold.
Then there are issues with "bad foam" with brass engines.? I don't know if this is much of an issue in S scale since I think most brass isn't as ancient as some of the HO.? But I suggest discarding it because it won't reliably
support the model in shipment as the foam crushes and turns to dust.
Occasionally there is somebody a little sketchy who puts something important at the very end of the description.? An example is the selling of some catalog, and at the very end they state it is photocopy.? So, it pays to read
it all.
