I just got a letter from Shapeways.

Re: American Models Steamers

The tire for the Steamer is the same for of the AM Steamers that were produced.?

American Models Steamers

Hi All,

I am not certain of this but I suspect that all AM steamers use the same diameter wheels, about 75".? That way the same tyres can be used.? To have them produce 63" drivers would require all new tooling.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Cheers,

Andy Malette

Constant checking with an NASG track gauge is critical to any turnout.

Friends.

My home (switching) layout is in need of a realignment of its one curve to accommodate my 0-8-0 locomotive (Overland) ?and I slightly-screwed-up my installation of a Fast Track No 6 turnout that connects to the east entrance to said curve.

So I decided to give S Scale Track Works Code 100 - Number 6 switch kit a try.

The online ordering was quick and easy.? One week later the well packed kit arrived via the US Postal Service.

I inspected the three casting and they look great.? My current schedule will not permit me to install this fine looking kit until February...I will update.

Take care.

Hey Mark,?
Jenks blue!!!!!? Very cool. It is funny that you just posted a picture of the post 1963 paint job. I was thinking of pulling my Jenks blue diesels off the shelf and running a couple Jenks blue trains. Sort of miss the all blue.?

Custom resin printing offered

I've gone thru MANY 1-liter bottles of the newly formulated GreyV5 on the Form4 printer and must say it is more robust, easier to clean, with FAR fewer failed prints than the Form3 with GreyPro combo I used for 4 years.? The Form4 is truly FormLabs' first resin production printer and I'm thrilled to be using it to offer parts that could otherwise not be produced easily/cheaply/quickly ... like ladders, grabs, and Apex roofwalks.
?
If you have an existing STEP or Parasolid file you want printed on this machine, contact me off-list to discuss.? I also offer CAD help for quick-turn projects if you provide ALL of the info to create a file.

Excellent work!? So much AM stuff, is simply open the box put in window glass; run it!? You've done much more, so showing the modified models would be great at contests and modular setups appealing to specific modelers who can at least appreciate what has been done.

Three nearly finished, still to be weathered, for more room for new projects. The caboose started out to mimic Mr. Stovers "good enough" but ended up going down the rabbit hole. All windows were either moved or enlarged. The GP's
have 3D fuel tanks, steps, and plows for the MP192.

Mark,?

Your 'good enough' is way better than mine!? Nice work, indeed, on all three models!? Any of these would make nice little articles for DISPATCH.? ?In the case of the caboose just a photo of the finished model and a small image of a 'stock' AM caboose with a brief text of what you did would make nice read and maybe inspire others to try similar conversions.? Anything that can be done to show what can be done with AM products is of big value.? AM is the only game in town, really, and their products do make great foundations for detailing and/or modifying as you've done.??

As any really good sales guy would admit--they lie!?

Well I'm not lying but bringing out one thing hardly anybody would offer to his customer!? I've mentioned about having a pair of AM E8's decorated for the Texas Special.? The main joint passenger train that ran on the Frisco and the Katy.? I don't know how many copies American Models produced but I understand they are sold out--So I can offer a special insetive to one lucky customer who might have special relationship with those roads and perhaps that train.? To the lucky buyer...they will get a binder of untold wealth of these never to be seen again prints.? A sample is attached. In the binder are many photos of the passenger cars, alternative power (like PA's),? These are nicely printed 8 x 10 prints that will be shipped to the new owner.?

I have a back to-it for a good weekend!? Only one item X 3 as I'm sort of winding down this chapter!

Here are three American Models cars for you to consider.? All boxcars are from Western based roads!? All seem to be NIB with trucks and scale wheels.? $80.00 for all three plus shipping.

Thanks Roger and Brooks for the good words on my shot in RMC.? O Winston has been one of my favorites going way back to his work in Life and other magazines of the time.? PBS did a story about him and his work, that had him re-stage one of his setups--talk about dedication.? Planing out the shot and then spending many hours getting set up all those flash bulbs was quite a feat and btw you only get one shot!?

Also some might also recall how a women in his life started to steal his work, finally a gallery became concerned about his welfare where it was brought forth that he was nearly a captive.? That was broadcast on 20/20 or some similar program for a real life drama.?

When I wasn't putting together a boxcar I was thinking of what photo possibilities I could whip up.? As I've aged all too quickly, those photo compositions come a bit slower!? However I still have another couple more to make.

Bob has a spectacular photo on the inside front cover of the December RMC. It’s a black and white night scene, artfully composed and brilliantly lit, ala O. Winston Link. It’s well worth the price of the magazine!
