SHS SW's

I had been struck by how much the Atlas O scale SW-8/9's resembled the SHS switchers.? Don Thompson informed me that Atlas actually developed their model (built in the same Chinese factory) AFTER the SHS.??
I recently had occasion to open up an Atlas even more than previously (I've owned about a dozen of them in the past twenty-five years) and found the cab arrangements were identical.? I think the only differences were in the electronics, where Atlas had to develop
different circuit boards to allow for the three-rail AC market.

开云体育Gentlemen, I'll testify that Mike knows
how to solder seams in "tender makin--senior Class".? When I was
switching from Dynatrol to DCC, I was attempting to remove a large
receiver from the tender wall of my custom made Mikado (yes the
same one in the NASG/RMC ad).? The double stick foam tape I used
was way too strong so I ended up breaking the seams to the point
of turning it back into random parts.? Mike took on the
responsibility of making everything one piece again!?

Re: Erroneous rumor about 3D Central and wheelset
Hello Ben,
?
code 110 ist what the wheel flanges of the first run of the AF Cylindrical Hopper were dimensioned, right? The rumor you quoted sounds as if someone has re-run the first batch of those hopper trucks without regarding the faults of those constructions.
It's time for scale trucks with correct dimensions. When I took those AF hopper trucks apart I ended with a "collection" of springs and other parts that refuse to get reassembled. At the moment I don't see a reliable source for trucks that are sprung and balanced and don't break your fingers if you try to assemble them.

Erroneous rumor about 3D Central and wheelset
I have heard from a few sources that 3D Central has been selling 100 ton roller bearing trucks with 36” wheels that do not conform to NASG and NMRA standards.
?
THIS IS COMPLETELY ERRONEOUS!
?
There is confusion because Buckeye and 100 ton roller bearing trucks with 36” are being fabricated and sold by others. ?Apparently the wheel sets that come with them are not code 100, are not gauged correctly, and maybe non-conforming in other ways. ?I say ‘apparently’ because I have not seen these products in person.
?
I am working with 3D Central to have 100 ton roller bearing trucks with NMRA RP-24, code 100 36” wheel sets to sold with my covered hoppers. ?I have provided SHS drawings, NMRA standards, and sent two wheel sets that were imported earlier this year that comply with above. ?My understanding is that 3D Central will not sell trucks to be sold along with my cars before I approve the final design.
?
Please ignore this unfortunate rumor.
Thanks,
?

We can most likely paint you a S12 black for an order. There might be a small fee to do that, but that is up Karen and or Joe. Ask for the deluxe S12 railings when call for them.

a very long time ago project!
开云体育I can't put my finger on what convention or who might have put out this little kit.? But I do thank John Agnew for shipping a Railmaster Bulldog my way! My mind says it might have been Doug Evans, but
whomever, made up a ski tank truck to accompany the Railmaster
Bulldog chassis.? This was my first time ever working with the
3D resins, not to mention I had never seen one of those
contraption in real life nor even a photo of it.? But I saw a
possibility for any layout with enough snowfall. to make it
believable. ? That was perhaps 6-10 years ago, when I started.?
The resin tank was early 3D so the layered courses were very
'steppy'.? I worked on sanding and filing, then sanding more,
then filing.? I finally tired of the project so another took
it's place.? Then last week I saw a video of an older gentlemen
who apparently sold Ford A vehicles using a ski attachment that
is still running! ? The Ford he was modifying could still use the
wheels, while the kit I had didn't have away of using them,
meaning when the snow is gone, the chain drive truck is
grounded. I decided with some more sanding and filing, I
probably could actually finish it.? I decided making it look
very tired was the way It would make sense--at least to me!? You
might not be able to see it, but I put several cracks in the
windshield and put enough crud to indicate pigeons might be
living there!? I think this is the longest two day project I've
ever done! Bob Werre |

Re: Featuring American Models
I just watched the video. I had it on my to do list but just have not had the time to sit and watch. Great video!! I laughed when he mentioned that you can just call them. I have had the late Ron B on my speed dial for more than ten years. I will be calling them soon for some E8 lift rings, S12 hand railing and most likely a undecorated S12 to paint up in Missouri Pacific. After watching the video I am going to ask if they have a S12 painted black with out lettering.?

Re: Today’s S Scale project
Today I sat down and started to build the tender for the Mutt. I did take some photos as I went today to post to those that are following the build. The wrapper is a photo etching from SSL&S and the deck is a stamping. I had never seen a photo etched wrapper from SSL&S and was very surprised at all its details etched into it. I did fabricated the floor, coal bunker front of coal bunker and top of the water legs. The deck needed fabrication also to fit how I wanted it to go on the wrapper.
?
This project did not take long since I knew what I wanted and have learned from my mistakes building other tenders. I have just under a full day in it to the point in the pictures. To some modelers dismay, I don't use sophisticated tools to make my tenders. Since I get asked often as to what I use to cut brass sheet or bending I took a couple pictures of the paper cutter and two wood blocks. I also use a Pana Vise.? The parts were soldered with 446F solder paste
?
The deck was soldered first from inside, then the floor was soldered in from the bottom. Next was the front coal bunker between the two water legs. All my tenders have removable coal sheets to give access to the inside of the tender for any wiring for lights, DCC decoders and sound speakers. Latter if I did put a speaker in the tender that is when I would cut the appropriate hole in the floor.? ?The Coal sheet was made to sit on the front of the coal bunker between the water legs and the back of the tender deck. Then the water leg tops as one piece were made to tie everything together in front and then soldered in place. The tender shell is now sound tight and ready for detailing. There will be two holes drilled in the bottom coming up through the frame into the tender floor to attach the frame and shell together. Everything is always kept removable. As I have built enough of my own to know that keeping it easy to take apart for maintenance is key in designing and building from the beginning.?
?
I forgot to say that all the needed brass was precleaned before starting the project. This made soldering prep easier. Once done the tender shell went into a bath of Simple Green full strength for five minutes in a heated sonic cleaner. This got all the fluxes and excess solder off and out of the inside of the tender shell. Rinsed in water and that is what you see in the pictures. I most likely will not get back to the tender for several days.?
