Stupid Bridge School Ticket Question...nnc

After looking on Ebay at all the ticket broker slime, it appears that
*nobody* got any seats in the 100's. Does anybody know what's up
with that? Perhaps this is standard stuff; I'm a BSB newbie
(although I've always wanted to go!)
The bridge school is not stupid and there is no such thing as a stupid question. Although there are stupid tickets and stupid schools and stupid bridges ... Sorry, I've been studying logical reasoning and I think I need to get stinking drunk or something ..

anyways .. i used to work for BGP, and over the years through observation, inquiry and personally paying out the wazoo to sit up close for my favorite artists, I have determined the following. You are correct in that "Nobody" got the seats. The seats are in virtual perpetchitude.

First, some of the better seats are held out for the actual performers as comp seats. For example, I went to Lyle Lovett, before the show started I upgraded my seat to where the band members didn't use their comp seats and they graciously gave them back to the venue. Way better. This to me is ok. But many venues do not upgrade seats unless ... well this is a well guarded secret I refuse to devulge.

Second, I sat fourth row center at Eric Clapton, but I paid $XXXX to, as you so accurately described, "ticket broker slime". What occurs here is that when rich people or poor people with credit cards buy up the ticket limit, they sell the tickets to ticket broker slime for a profit then the ticket broker slime sells the ticket back to the poor people who should have been able to by the freakin' ticket in the first place because they are the one who are the true music fan.

Basically it's legalized "scalping". A politically incorrect term, maybe it should be called "reaming" or "raping" or "highway robbery". Nonetheless, the fat man keeps getting richer while the poor man pays the band.

The slime can hold the tickets till the day of the show. So the tickets are in virtual purchase.

Third, the concert venue, "people who know people" and selected venue staff have access to the better seats for basically when they either fuck up or when they want to kiss up or both.

Actually, the simple answer is that for most big-venue concerts, ticket
brokers make deals directly with the promoters and venues, arranging to
purchase blocks of the best seats before they're ever put on sale to the
public. It's a complete myth that ticket scalpers get their tickets by
sending people to stand in line or by purchasing tickets from fans who
bought them legitimately. Those things are done, but mostly to keep up
appearances. I have the utmost respect for Neil Young and the Bridge
School, but I have no reason to believe that this isn't exactly what
goes on with the BSB each year.

Sorry rusties, I have worked myself up into a frenzy and feel compelled to share these expressions i never share ... please ignore me if you don't care, but I have a controversial question ...

I went back to edit my post just to see what errors I made, school habits and all you know ... and I got more furious...

... What occurs here is that when rich people, and/or poor people with credit cards buy up the ticket limit, they then sell the tickets to ticket broker slime for a profit. Then the ticket broker slime sells the ticket back for even more profit to the poor people who should have been able to by the freakin' ticket in the first place because they are the one who are the true music fan.

Question? This is probably why the concerts sell out, no pun intended, so ridiculously quickly. Maybe there should be a law that if you buy the ticket you must show proof of purchase with the ticket for how much you paid for the ticket. So that if you buy the ticket you HAVE to go to the fuckin' show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Third, the concert venue holds back seats for the concert venue, "people who know people" and selected venue staff. They all have access to the better seats even during the show for basically when they either fuck up or when they want to kiss up or both.
Conclusion: So even after a show is "sold out" it is a LIE. Because there are, for sure, UNSOLD seats. What a piece of crap. Capitalism in action, or is it simply greed?

Fraid not Matt. I have bought from ticket broker slime and asked them how it works. Prior to this I got sick once and had a mosh pit ticket to Creed I couldn't use. Found out they would've payed me big for it.

Don't understand the concept of sending people to stand in line for them though. Aren't most sales don't online or by phone? Do people really camp out for seats still?

Thanks for the clarifications on yet another evil method they use.

slim (not to be confused with slime)

Way behind in the digests so maybe someone else gave a similar response...

The Bridge School Benefit is three things:
1. A great concert
2. A fund raiser for the school
3. A party and celebration for the students, families, staff and benefactors

1. Concert: Some of the good tickets go to the promoter, each of the bands
gets an allotment to distribute to their people, and no doubt *ticket
agencies* get blocks of tickets.

2. Fund raiser: Key contributors get access to tickets. Does anyone think
that Sheila gets tickets to distribute to Rust via lottery just because
Lookout Management likes Rusties? Rusties have contributed generously to the
Bridge School many ways, the raffle, More Barn! shirt proceeds, poster
sales, any excess funds from IRF registration, many individual pledges, and
others I'm forgetting right now. I'm sure there are many other individuals
and groups that get some sort of preferential access to tickets because of
their generous support of the school.

3. Party: It seems that pretty much everyone associated with the Bridge
School gets tickets. The risers behind the stage, side stage and backstage
are all crowded with family and friends with backstage passes. Most of these
folks have tickets out front too, since the sound sucks from backstage. The
100 level has lots of families in it for this concert. The upside of this is
many of them don't last for the whole 8 hours and it is possible to "stub
up".

What this all adds up to is many more of the lower bowl tickets are gone
before the general public sale occurs. Much more than a *normal* concert. Of
course, this does nothing to ease the pain of getting shut out.

Looking forward... to all Rusties being down front,
Paul

Thanks for your words of wisdom, Paul; you set my saddle straight. I now can see my prior angst through different eyes and I'll be able to check my attitude at the door. That is at My own front door before I ride down from SAC for the show. My friend that I asked to go with me last year to see the BSB was able to buy some tickets to this years show. She invited me to go. Ya hoooooooooooooooo !!!!!!!!

Keep on acoustically rockin' in the free world.
