Nice spirited viewpoints being spoken on this subject
here. I was posting about this last week and was
surprised I didn't get flamed. I too used to
initially get my hackles up when I'd hear songs in
commercials, but a simple adjustment of attitude fixed
all of that angst. My advice: disassociate the
commercial from the song, and enjoy the song,....don't
get all worried about an artist selling out. Henry's
post was right on. It's the artist's song to sell or
to not sell. Heck, IGGY POP says he doesn't give a
damn if his songs are used in commercials...IGGY
...heart full of napalm...POP!
When I heard a Buzzcocks song on a car advertisement a
couple of years ago, my reaction was "COOL!"....and
spawned a re-awakened worship of those great
high-energy songs of theirs. That commercial where
the guy meets the girl in the elevator, and that
Partridge Family song "I Think I Love You" came
on....what a GREAT commercial.....and I have no idea
what the commercial was advertising. But it was a
thoroughly enjoyable moment.
Anyway, I'm procrastinating. I'm off to write more of
a monsterous report on....you guessed it....impact of
shallow soils from pesticide use (main concern is
arsenic)....and by the way for you family farmer fans,
we're also working on evaluating aquifer impact from
gigantic pig shit lagoons as well....HOOOODOGGIES!
Take care, Charlie.....GO BUCS!
