? ?Hello,
? ?I hope this note finds everyone safe and well.
I pre-ordered The Archives Vol.3 and I've been spinning the "Takes" cd for a few weeks.
?
? I have always liked "Razor Love". I first heard it solo acoustic on the Westwood One radio show in 1990 that was featuring songs from 1989.
That version has remained my favorite.? Once I started tape trading, I found the 1984 Harvesters version and liked the country version.? ?Then, in 1997, at the Trocadero and Catalyst, the versions with the Horse were loose and cool.? ? When it was finally released on "Silver & Gold" it was fine, but didn't hold the magic of other versions.? ?There was even an extended version of the "Silver & Gold" take on Neil's site in 2000.
? Now, while listening to the "Takes" version of "Razor Love", I really enjoy it... sparce, yet effective.? I know that it wasn't recorded during either session, but to me it sonically seems to bridge the gap between the electronic "Trans" songs and the bottom heavy "Landing on Water" songs.? ?The way it was recorded in January 1984, it would seem to fit naturally on the radio at that time.
I'm interested to hear what others think about the many versions and history of this 40-year-old song.
? ? ?Thanks for reading, ... now back to Lurkdom.
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?all my best,
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?RustinTampa (Eric)
