Has anyone here mounted the Pineberry Pi Bottom HAT onto an RPI5? I have sent an inquiry to Pineberry Pi but have no yet received a reply. I can find pictures on the internet showing the Top HAT mounted and have my Top HAT mounted and booting the RPI5. But I cannot find any pictures or diagrams of the Bottom HAT mounted to an RPI5. Should it be mounted with the SSD up (pointed towards the RPI5 bottom) or the SSD down (away from the RPI5 bottom)? To orient the connecting cable pointer as shown for the Top HAT, the Bottom HAT must be mounted with the SSD down. Thanks for any help or guidance. Happy New Year! Edd - KD5M

Received mine yesterday. SSD down. Unfortunately, the orientation of the hold down screw/nut, you have to remove the bottom had if you want to change the SSD...

Thanks David. After I posted my question I searched again and found a review of the Pineberry Pi boards posted yesterday on Toms Hardware by Les Pounder that shows a picture of the Bottom Board connected to the RPI5. Yes, the mount for the SSD requires removal from the RPI5 board. Another problem is the SD card slot is hidden by the PCIe connecting cable between the RPI5 and the Bottom Hat. To change / remove the SSD card you must also remove the Bottom Hat from the RPI5. I am looking for a case to mount the RPI5 / Bottom Board in to protect the SSD - I have two on order from Amazon arriving tomorrow to try. - They are both simple top / bottom plexiglass with standoffs. Thanks again. Happy New Year. Edd - KD5M

Hi Edd,
I have received my Pineberry BOT card, but the 8g RPi-5 I ordered last September from SparkFun has not been received yet.? The drive is already programmed and ready to put on the BOT card.
I, too, am hoping to find a case to protect my PI system and keep it cool.
I would very much appreciate it if you post how your enclosures work out.

Hi Ed,
I have the BOT Pineberry card I received in late December, but I'm still awaiting the 8gb Pi-5 kit I ordered in September from SparkFun.
Have you found a case yet that works with the Pi-5 and BOT together?? I would like one that encloses the sides and bottom of the BOT with openings for cooling.
Have you seen such a case yet?
Best regards,
John,? WoGN

Good morning John. The short answer is No. The Geekworm 9 layer acrylic case (P-394 A or B) will provide side protection for the RPI5 / active cooler but will need to be modified with spacers to allow mounting the Pineberry bottom NVME HAT (or top NVME HAT) to the RPI5 board - without side protection.. I am using this "case" now. Pimoroni also makes a bottom NVME HAT for the RPI5 but they do not yet offer a case to put the RPI5 / Active Cooler / NVME board into. I also have this NVME HAT to try. We will have to keep looking for a proper mounting solution. Edd - KD5M

There isn't anything commercially available, but I found the STL (3D model) of one and 3D printed it myself.? Works perfectly!

I canceled my SparkFun order.
Got tired of waiting - while they show up for sale everywhere else.
The next time a buddy visits a MicroCenter in the Atlanta area,
he'll pick up a RPi 5 for me there.
|
Keep checking ??
and both have the 4g and 8g Pi5's in stock.
I waited on sparkfun for almost 3 months before I cancelled the order.?
Every other retailer has been shipping as soon as they come in

I've been waiting on Sparkfun for three months now
on an Rpi5-8GB kit and sent their support email list an email on
Friday for a status as I'm getting very frustrated too.? While I
got an automated email response, no real HUMAN reply yet.? I'll
give them a few more days for a response or I'll cancel too.

I never got a response until I emailed them and told them it was fraud to have taken a pre-order and not shipped, when people that had ordered recently were receiving their Pi5's
Received a reply about 20 minutes after sending that email that my order was cancelled and money was returned to my card

Pimoroni in the UK has RPI5s - 8GB and 4GB - in stock as well as an NVME SSD bottom hat they have developed. I just received the 8GB RPi5 and the bottom hat last week. Edd - KD5M

What's funny is sparkfun was advertising a lot that they were taking pre-orders for the pi5's... Once they actually shipped from the pi foundation in October, I no longer see any of their advertisements on a lot of the pi project websites like I used to

I can't speak directly to any Pi5 issues, but I have had good experiences with SparkFun.

Could it be they just wanted to use our money interest free?? I have received no unsolicited answer from them, only vague answers to Emails I've sent to them.? At one point they said I was around 1000 on their list.? Next was they received 1000 8gb Pi-5s.? Next was it took time to assemble the kit.? That was about two weeks ago.
