Asa, It looks like I'm gonna have to give up on finding a file hosting site.? I just can't find one that will allow direct file links to large files without paying $20 or more per month.? I've paid enough over the years for storage and the web site. If you want, you can send me a 16GB or larger SD card and I'll copy the image onto it.? Perhaps I can make that the new way of getting the files. Mark KD0QYN

Mark, I have a year or two left on a hosting site. It's yours if you want it. And if I can figure out how on my other hosting site, I can share it with you for free. Jack KE4LWT? Asa, On the other hand, here's a link that should work.? You'll get an error about not being able to scan the file, but you should be able to continue on with the download.? This is a ZIP file so you'll have to unzip it to get the image. Please let me know how this works. Mark KD0QYN

Jack, I appreciate that.? Looks like I might be able to get this all working again using Google Drive.? The direct download links may get an error about not being able to scan the file, but the download should continue.? It's not the optimal setup like before, but it's the best I can do without paying $20 or more a month. I've tried a number of different download sites, and they all either won't allow large files, or they can't do a direct download link, or they cost too much.? So many are geared toward the young folks sharing videos and music from their phones.? I guess that is the market today.? No more simple old FTP download sites. Thanks again. Mark KD0QYN

Have you looked into GitHub?? As long as it's open source, it's free. Same with SourceForge

开云体育Hello Mark, I'm just wondering how much data there is on the SD card. Just
wondering if "PiShrink" would help with any of this? ----- Original Message -----

开云体育Hi Mark,That worked brilliantly. ?I have a copy downloaded now. ?Would you consider putting up the other download artifacts and updating the links on your web page? ?Docs, videos, etc? I think you can share a link to a single folder in your Google drive too. ?That would allow someone to view and choose what they wish to download. This is great! The PiGate system is the complete OS image, not a single software program.? It consists of the integration of several software packages that already exist in the Raspberry Pi OS along with some PHP programs for the web interface and some custom shell scripts for the administration interface. The receiving and sending of email through the Winlink system can be done without the administration interface.? My system here at home runs 24/7, sending and receiving email through Winlink, and I rarely access the admin interface.? In fact, everything could be done from the command line if you knew the Linux commands to get stuff done.? I developed the admin interface to make it easier for hams without extensive knowledge of Linux to use the device.? Once I go through the initial setup, all I use is an email app on my smart phone which sends an email to the PiGate, which in turn sends it through Winlink to the destination.? Incoming email is the reverse.? It's like me sending this email to you, once I press send, it all happens in the background and it just works. The integration is kinda tricky and can't be done without manually adding the correct software packages and making changes to configuration files and things like that.? So if I want update the OS or the kernel, I need to rebuild the whole thing again.? Kinda a pain in the rear, but I can't think of another way. Once you download the image and put it on an SD card, you have all the
special PHP and shell scripts that can be viewed so it's really open
source. So the short answer is it can't be done using GitHub. Mark KD0QYN

Mick, Well, the image is a 16GB image, but it gets compressed down to about 2GB for the download.? Then the user unzips.? PiShrink does the same thing using gzip. Mark KD0QYN

Asa, I'll work on getting the rest of the files converted to Google Drive and web site links updated.? My main concern was the big image files, if they would work with a direct link. Mark KD0QYN

开云体育It did work for me earlier today. ?As you mentioned, Google warns that it’s too big to virus scan but that’s easy enough to do locally.I think you are in good shape. ?:) Asa ?Jay Sent via radio waves On Aug 2, 2023, at 14:49, Mark Griffith via groups.io <mdgriffith2003@...> wrote:

Thank you for all your efforts in producing a great piece of gear for EMCOM Ops. I was happy to find out that you moved the Pi image to Google Drive. I originally purchased my PiGate RMS with case a few years ago but the project got put on the back burner. I didn't want to fire it up without documentation or access to the original image without backup. Thanks to your efforts I'm now ready to set it up as another tool in my tool box for emergency deployments.
Great Job
Thanks
Larry
