Overcoming bad USB cables
After a lot of fussing with questionable USB cables and less than 4.8 volts at the far end of the cable I bought one of the little 3 amp Adjustable buck converters off ebay, adjusted the output to 5.3

If you have an old android tablet lying around (you can pick them up for <$50 for sure) you can use VNC Viewer to display the GUI remotely. I do that with a Pi I have connected to my CNC machine.
