Aliexpress (Was: Re: [RaspberryPi-4-HamRadio] EDATEC Industrialized Raspberry RPi-5)
I don't order from Aliexpress vendors who don't accept PayPal.
In fact, I endeavor to follow that policy for all on-line purchases. Larry WB6BBB On Wed, 27 Dec 2023 20:07:05 -0800, "Michael WA7SKG" <wa7skg@...> wrote: Likewise. |

开云体育Hi Edd, I have received my Pineberry BOT card, but the 8g RPi-5 I ordered last September from SparkFun has not been received yet.? The drive is already programmed and ready to put on the BOT card. I, too, am hoping to find a case to protect my PI system and keep it cool. I would very much appreciate it if you post how your enclosures work out. John,? WoGN On 2023-12-27 14:32, Edward Seeliger wrote:

Although I have never placed an order with Aliexpress, they started making charges to my credit card. Most were under $15, but they made over 300 transactions in a three week period. Could not reach anybody or get any response from Aliexpress. I filed a protest with my bank. Response to the bank from Aliexpress was all items were ordered and delivered. I never ordered or received a single thing. They refused to tell the bank what address the items were delivered to due to "Privacy Restrictions." It took a couple months until the bank removed all the charges. Had to cancel and reissue my credit card. Bank told me it took so long to resolve because they had so many similar complaints against them. Stay away from Aliexpress. Re: EDATEC Industrialized Raspberry RPi-5
Yep. Multiple items. Not as described (not even close on a couple), DOA, and finally quit buying from them. Takes forever to get a refund, and one item, a simple folding table, credit card company wouldn't give a refund because tracking showed it delivered...? The fact that it was delivered 2500 miles away, and the supposed folding table was listed by UPS as being a pallet weighing 800 pounds, they still wouldn't refund

Re: Pineberry Pi SSD HATs
Thanks David.
After I posted my question I searched again and found a review of the Pineberry Pi boards posted yesterday on Toms Hardware by Les Pounder that shows a picture of the Bottom Board connected to the RPI5. Yes, the mount for the SSD requires removal from the RPI5 board. Another problem is the SD card slot is hidden by the PCIe connecting cable between the RPI5 and the Bottom Hat. To change / remove the SSD card you must also remove the Bottom Hat from the RPI5. I am looking for a case to mount the RPI5 / Bottom Board in to protect the SSD - I have two on order from Amazon arriving tomorrow to try. - They are both simple top / bottom plexiglass with standoffs. Thanks again. Happy New Year. Edd - KD5M |
Re: Pineberry Pi SSD HATs
Received mine yesterday. SSD down. Unfortunately, the orientation of the hold down screw/nut, you have to remove the bottom had if you want to change the SSD...

Pineberry Pi SSD HATs
Has anyone here mounted the Pineberry Pi Bottom HAT onto an RPI5?
I have sent an inquiry to Pineberry Pi but have no yet received a reply. I can find pictures on the internet showing the Top HAT mounted and have my Top HAT mounted and booting the RPI5. But I cannot find any pictures or diagrams of the Bottom HAT mounted to an RPI5. Should it be mounted with the SSD up (pointed towards the RPI5 bottom) or the SSD down (away from the RPI5 bottom)? To orient the connecting cable pointer as shown for the Top HAT, the Bottom HAT must be mounted with the SSD down. Thanks for any help or guidance. Happy New Year! Edd - KD5M |

Re: RPi Kernel Panic on Bookworm
开云体育Hello Mike,Do you have a more complete kernel panic screen capture?? I see it's showing "AX.25" but there should be a full screen worth of detail.? Regardless, there are a few known issues with modern Linux kernels and it's AX.25 stack though nothing I'm aware with UI packets sent from tools like beacon.? Which ax25apps / ax25tools are you using??? The ones included from the Raspberry Pi OS repo?? Maybe the VE7FET repo (recommended) or maybe the Official AX.25 repo (somewhat out of date)? If you're using the Raspberry Pi OS packages, I recommend you remove them, build up the VE7FET ones, and see if that helps.? I have that all documented here: ?? If that doesn't help, I have received a few proposed Ax.25 kernel module changes that are supposed to fix a few of these known connected-mode packet connection issues (decent description is here:?? ) but to use them, it requires recompiling the AX.25 kernel module.? It's not to difficult to do once you have the setup but it has to be redone whenever there is a new kernel released as part of the usual patching process. --David KI6ZHD On 12/26/2023 12:36 PM, Michael Dunn

Re: RPi Kernel Panic on Bookworm
There has been a newer build or two of bookworm since then, and firmware has also been updated.? Run sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y && sudo rpi-eeprom-update -d -a
To bring it all up to the latest version.? Im part of the beta testers for bookworm, and its first release was way too premature, but seems the powers that be ignored the beta testers and their bug reports to surprise users with the new OS, and make sure the pi 5's had an OS that would (somewhat) work.

RPi Kernel Panic on Bookworm
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has run into kernel panic issues on Bookworm? ?About a month ago, I decided to finally upgrade my fairly reliable RPi3 on Stretch to a 8G RPi 4 running Bookworm. ?I used the RPi3 mostly for packet, an RMS station, and Pat client. ?When I say upgrade, I mean I built the new Pi from scratch, merged prior configs into new configs, etc. ?After moving everything over, I started noticing crashes every 4 - 5 days. It took me a few crashes to figure things out. ?The usual suspects were ruled out (power, temperature, load, RAM, apt-get upgrade); I wasn't receiving any log messages indicating any type of issue. ?I also run all of my Pi's headless, so as it turns out I had to order one of those Micro HDMI cables to finally see the panic, relevant section below:
Curious to see if anyone is having issues like this. ?My uneducated read of this is that /usr/sbin/beacon did something bad with a pointer. ?I was able to verify that PID 5851 was the "beacon" process and this is the second panic I caught which names beacon as the culprit. My short term work around is to have Direwolf beacon for me and prevent /usr/sbin/beacon from running. ?It will take a week or two in order to know whether that work around is helpful. ?I usually prefer to use the native AX.25 tools whenever I can, but that toolset doesn't seem to be aging well. ? Thanks ? Mike |
