I don't know what you mean by bloat?
How can you speak of bloat and also be running xastir? Is that the reason for the bloat? Why do you need xastir?
I am running i2c because I'm running two TNCpi on my Rpi.
Again, no problems, running BPQ's patch to the i2c driver.
