Or just buy a conventional old fashioned TNC.

Hello Rick,

There are lots of write-ups on how to setup packet radio on Linux with Direwolf and the Linux kernel AX.25 stack.? Here is mine with a focus using a Raspberry Pi:

??

There are also guides out there using Linux + Direwolf + tools like BPQ32, etc.? It all depends on what features you're trying to offer.

Hi to all! I'm IU0MJE, Riccardo, from Italy. All the packet networks are dead, but I'd like to try to rebuild a new one in Lazio (Monterotondo). I have a big hardware repository (actually I can run from a Z20 Server, passing some PC, till Raspberry PI5 and Arduino), the radio shack may be ok too (FT-991, CRT6900N, FT-897 and FT-817 with original SCU-17 interface and some baofeng and radioddity mobiles)...
What I really need to build an AX.25 node, without a real TNC? I see many software like soundmodem, direwolf and more...
May be interesting the use of AX.25 protocol and route the IP network from base to my mobile (for example).
Any Idea?
?
Thanks to all,
