Yes these are valid usernames in the Winlink system. ?They can be used to login on the Winlink web site. ?But it never even gets that far in PiGate. ?A session never opens. ?Something in the initial setup scripts doesn’t like the -4. ?I’ve not had time to investigate further.

- If we enter a valid Winlink.org call sign such a XX2X-4, the PiGate will not trigger a Signalink
- The call sign cannot be changed unless we start from scratch with a fresh image.
Let me elaborate on each point.
We started by setting up PiGate to use a SignaLink USB.? We set the call sign in /root/direwolf.conf, we then copied /root/get_tnc_params.sh.DW to /root/get_tnc_params.sh as indicated in the documentation.? We then set about the admin interface and set the call sign (XX2X-4), date/time, location, set default RMS station, etc.? Reboot for good measure and ... nothing.? Polling would not trigger the SignaLink.? Contrast that with doing the exact same procedure with another fresh image and leaving off the -4 from the call sign and everything worked as expected.
The XX2X-4 call sign is registered with Winlink.org and works fine -in- Winlink on Windows (RMS Express).? But it does not work with the PiGate.? My guess is there is some Sed or Awk magic happening that doesn't like the "-4" in the call sign on first setup.
Second point.? Although there is a method to change the call sign, it doesn't work for use of the base PiGate functionality.? Let me explain.? We initially set-up the system with the XX2X-4 call and password.? When it didn't appear to work, we removed the -4, and it still didn't work.? We then tried an alternate known-good call sign and that didn't work.
We built a new fresh image that worked using my call sign. We then attempted to change it to another, and again, it would not work.? Changing it -back- to mine then again made everything work.
We would sincerely like to understand why using a -4 in the call sign does not work, and why we can't easily change the base call used in the PiGate.
