Re: New Member Question

David,

Those other Pi's are long gone, so there is no way I can do any further debugging. At present I've only got two Mac Mini's (one M1, one Intel) and this new RPi 400. This afternoon I hooked up the '400 and got it going. Out of the box, it only half worked. Well, more than half. This unit must have been sitting on a shelf for a while, as a few things didn't work. One was the "suggested applications", and the other was sudo apt-get update. Both returned errors that, after doing some Googling, I found out that it is now sudo apt update. This worked and I followed it up with a sudo apt upgrade, which took mere milliseconds to complete. Actually, it took about 45 minutes, but when it was done, several things worked properly that didn't work when the '400 came out of the box. Prior to doing the upgrade, the system was unable to find my Epson network-attached printer. After the upgrade, all FB.

I still -may- need to use VNC to get to my Mac - I've got files on the iCloud Drive that I'm not sure the '400 will be able to see simply by using the network addressing. I'll test this tonight or over the weekend.

I will NOT be loading BOINC on the new '400 - got it running on the two Mac Mini's - that's enough of my computing power they are gonna get!

Anyway, thanks for everyone's comments and suggestions - on to using the new computer.
