First Event! May 10, 2023 @ 00:00 - 02:00 UTC #event_notice

Edited

Welcome to the first run of RandomGram!

The event starts on May 10th at 00:00z (Wed UTC; Tue evening US) and will last for two hours.

This will not necessarily be the regular time for future events: other days; longer (or shorter) duration are possibilities. Let's see how it goes...

This first event will have no teams in the mix. So, it is everyone for themself!

If you haven't done so already make sure to request your TX List of code groups by emailing your callsign to [email protected]

Stand by for updates...

Drew

Drew-san and all,

I will work at home tomorrow and join RandomGram at the first half.

Do you allow us self-spotting on SKCC SkedPage ?

CUL, 73
// HIRO, JJ1FXF

The first RandomGram event will start in less than 24 hours:
May 10 @ 00:00 - 02:00 UTC (Tue evening US; Wed UTC).

To those who have not requested a TX List yet, you can still do so. (We will also try to fill requests for TX lists during the event.) Just email your call sign to [email protected]

Frequencies. There is no specific frequency but 50 - 60 kHz from the bottom of the band (non-WARC) is suggested.

WPM Speeds. Since accuracy is what counts, most operators will try to transmit their code groups carefully and deliberately, matching the speed of the other operator to ensure a successful exchange for both.

Results will be updated as operators submit their copied groups after the event. As additional groups are reported your own TX points may increase.

For more info see the RandomGram page here.

Have fun!

73,
Drew - AF2Z

Hiro-san,

Yes, you can use the and do self-spotting. Also feel free to exchange SKCC info if wanted or requested.

Drew

I could join the Random Gram but only for 30min++ due to my work.

I was frequently called from the US, KOR and JPN, BUT! none of them sent me the RG string. :(

So my result is ZERO this time.

I'll participate the future RG if any.

TNX Drew-san for this wonderful event.

Thank you, Hiro-san. It was not the best time for you. I listened for you on 15m but heard nil. Perhaps next event we can start earlier and end later.

To everyone: the results are posted in the follow message link and will be edited/updated as additional groups are submitted:

It was tough, tough sledding on 20m for the event. ?I¡¯m locked into that band and only that band by ridiculous HOA rules, so when 20m is a dud, my scores suffer.
?
Two QSOs in the first hour (after searching, not doing much pouncing, and a fair amount of CQ¡¯ing), and then I pulled the plug.
?
Looking forward to the next one (hopefully with with ¡¯normal¡¯ propagation)!

Hi Gary,

Will probably change time/duration for a future event to make it more accessible in other areas (east and west).

But when conditions are tough remember you can make multiple repeat contacts with the same few stations and exchange additional code groups. I contact DF7TV a number of times on 20m.

I had just returned from a long weekend elsewhere, but? still had a great time despite being on the verge of falling asleep (passing out hi hi).
Thanks Drew for starting this fun project up again... I remember doing this event years ago and really enjoyed it.

Tnx, Curt-- nice job for a sleepy effort!

I was an Rx lurker for this first RG event. I didn't really understand what it was all about so I just sat and copied what I heard to get the hang of it. I still don't understand what the team concept is all about, but I enjoyed participating as an SWL. Next time I'll be a full participant. Great idea, great fun!

Hi John,

Please submit any groups you copied as SWL. They will give TX points for the ops who transmitted them, and RX points for yourself for copying them.

We didn't have any formal teams for this event but just wanted to try one as an example (tnx Tom DF7TV). If you check the results listing you can see the five operators who were on the TOPSEC team; also, the team total at the bottom of the results listing:

/g/RandomGram/message/8

In this case the TOPSEC team was just a multi-oprator group (in different QTH's). In future events we might have separate teams for Straight Key, Bug and Cootie keys. Then anyone will be able to join one of the teams if they choose to do so. We'll have more details when we do that.
