A UP steam locomotive with a block of reefers in Wyoming. Note the snow fence to the right of the photo. This photo was taken by Elliott Erwitt, who is known for his artistic photos rather than railroad photos.

Bob,

?

Is that a Big Boy heading it up,, or a Challenger?? The photo comes in too small for me to tell.

?

I suppose you saw the clip of the Big Boy running through the snow in Kansas.? A friend sent me pictures that he took of it while running north from Marshall to Atlanta, Texas.? It would be nice if the UP was able to acquire and get the Texas & Pacific¡¯s one remaining 2-10-4 up and running again.? More people would see it that way and the UP does have the resources to maintain it well.

?

The UP even runs up this way, but don¡¯t know if the track, which appears to be well maintained north of Pocatello, ID, is up to excursion standards.

Looks like either the first series of Challengers or a 2-8-8-0. ?I¡¯ll go with the CSA1

To help date the picture, the car is a 1950 Chrysler Windsor - Unfortunately, I'm not good at identifying steam engines, but I can tell a car by it's grill :)
