Load Of Pecan Pieces

Load Of Pecan Pieces

This is link to a 1927 photo from the collection of the University of Utah:

The stenciling on the barrels appears to say they contain pecan pieces. The captions says the load is pecans.

In any case, this is another example of a non-perishable load shipped in a refrigerator car.

Thanks, Chief Bob!

Pecan?pieces, who woulda' thunk?

Another destination for reefers!? Now I wonder how raisins were shipped.? A photo at Sun Maid showed box cars. but that was probably in Summer.? Reefers as insulated box cars in Winter?!

Pecans will o rancid if left sealed, faster in warm conditions, even more in Summer's heat.? Reefers for shipping pecans makes good sense.
