Re: PFE Class R-30-9 Question

?
Hello Don,
?
You did not state the year(s) you are modeling.? Even PFE itself was inconsistent in using the terms "rebuilt" and "reconditioned."? So, we need to know dates to get the car details correct.? Note that the R-30/40-9 car bodies were taller than the earlier cars they were rebuilt from - changing the cubic capacity from 1918 cuft. to 1988 cuft.
?
There is a tremendous resource of PFE car data from May 1951 at the California State RR Museum Library.? See message #11024 on this list for more information.
Also look for "PFE 1951 ufilm Car Cards" in the Files area of this list for an Excel file finding aid to those Car Cards.
?
That Car Card data says that R-30/40-9 cars #95742 to 95918 had Holland hatch covers, and cars #95922 and higher had Equipco hatch covers.
That needs more investigation.
?
I know of no data that WP reefer rebuilds received Equipco hatch covers, even though they continued to be rebuilt after the R-30/40-9 cars first received Equipco hatch covers in October 1939.?
