Re: TRA 921 Speaker Pic
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThe mic insert is a carbon type (red with a black stripe), and will not work with the Syncal set; the handset is probably the one used with the UK's A-41 No2 manpack, which used a carbon mic element, and had a similar (but differently keyed) 6 pin plug. 73 Al G8LIT

Early Syncal Speaker
Found a shorted transistor in the Speaker amplifier. Subbed a replacement in and now have lots of audio. Listening to a net here on 3.933 and the receiver sounds very good and on frequency as well! Now I need a 18V power supply or rebuild the battery pack. I do have the charger. I haven't opened the battery pack but I am pretty sure the nicads are junk. I also need a microphone. Anyone want to trade a speaker for a microphone? Marty KL7AM |
Re: TRA 921 Speaker Pic
The one on the right is either an MA909 or MA988. The one on the left I don't recognize. The MA909 is wired B +supply, F audio in, D ground and is 18V The MA988 is wired B +supply, F Audio in, D ground and is 18-30v but will work with reduced output down to 10v The MA988B is wired? A Ground, B Audio in, C Ptt, E +supply The MA988C is wired C +supply, D audio in, E ground, F Ptt and should have a 7 pin Clansman plug |

How about this handset.? It has 6 pins and a white strip on the mic. Tom On 6/27/2020 1:36 PM, KB0SFP via groups.io wrote:
Yes it is 6 pins, but so too is the clansman of the same period. The connectors on my clansman audio devices(as well as early Southcom) look identical. But as Tom says, the index pins are different. |

Re: TRA 921 Speaker Pic
The best and cheapest place for brand new military connectors (or indeed any other type of connector), is Servo and Electronic Supplies in Lydd, Kent.

I have known this company since 1965 when I first met the former owner Arthur Egan, now deceased. Arthur started buying up surplus military electronics after the war (1947), and specialised in Synchros, Servos and Connectors. His son Rob took over the company a few years back, and Servo have two levels of stock. 1) Certified, brand new, fully traceable stock, at prices that for most Radio Amateurs are eye-watering. 2) Brand new, uncertified, stock that has no traceability. This stock is much, much cheaper, but comes in the manufacturer¡¯s sealed bag. However one absolutely MUST give the full part number of what you are looking for. Call: 01797-322500 A lady called Sam handles the uncertified stock. She will not tolerate time-wasters and will probably ask for you to email her, so that she can quote you a price and delivery. If in doubt about the part number, she will accept a photo of the part (or it¡¯s mating half), and do her best to help. Servo still have R1155/T1154 Jones Plugs in stock as well as most WW2 era connectors - all brand new, old stock. Julian Barnard. On 27 Jun 2020, at 16:56, Tom B <tbryan@...> wrote: |
