The TRA921 is a Syncal, just not a Syncal 30 like the TRA931 series. The TRA921 battery box was designed to hold three 6 Volt lantern batteries for a nominal 18 Volts. Tom The TRA921 is not a Syncal, it operates on 18v nominal. The radio may be |
Re: Final transisters for racal 921 syncal 30
Seems there is some confusion in relation to this topic. As G8OZH has pointed out the TRA931 is a Syncal radio. This operates on 24v and uses the 2N5070 transistors in the finals.
The TRA921 is not a Syncal, it operates on 18v nominal. The radio may be able to handle the 22v but it would be starting to push it's tolerance. I can't find any reference to 22v in my TRA921 manual and the associated power supply MA927 is set for 18.5V and the hand charger MA913 tops at 20.3v The TRA921 uses two U14630/3, Racal Part 915130 in the finals. It appears to be an ST micro electronics device and has an NSN of? 5961-99-118-0488 if google is to be believed. Regards Dave g1jwg ? |
Re: Final transisters for racal 921 syncal 30
My manual stated it can run on voltage between 18 and 22 volts but aT 20 ? It popped so we kept it at 18.? and it works ok i'm running 18 volts and 3 amps. Its still running ok it just the watt out put is low on high power at 9 watts. It should be 20. On Thursday, December 4, 2014 3:16 PM, "david ludlow bearsnack009@... [Racal-manpacks]" wrote:

This is a nightmare zone as far as I am concerned. I have had a Syncal30 on the bench that keeps on blowing its finals for no obvious reason. Probably some kind of VHF resonance. Sources of transistors (2N5070) are: 1) Guy in USA on eBay had a big batch of them a while ago. I was going to say don't use these but maybe the set I have is the reason they keep blowing as I have now tried parts sourced elsewhere. 2) A scrap Racal 100W amplifier TA940. This has a pile of these transistors (or an equivalent). 3) The finals of a Clansman 320 (I think it is) has a pair if you can find a scrap one. The snag is you need a load to be able to match them. I have found they are quite variable in their parameters. Like me, you might want to worry about why they blew in the first place as the Syncal finals are meant to be protected from the obvious and normal abuse. Check that all the ALC circuits are working correctly because you don't g et any warning if they are not. |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDave,?With reference to your comment "I ?did have an issue with the radio not being able to handle much over 18 volts. Final transisters for racal 921 syncal 30
Hello! Im looking for some? proper final transisters- I need 2? for my tra 921 syncal 30 or a recommendation for a good more easily available good substitute ?I don't have the identifying? number for then? I could use that. the gentleman that did my radio work was excellent? but sadly he has passed. I have a new tech but i know these parts are rare.and are most likely not available through the regular channels. Any help would be greatly appreciated dave KG4LQT |

It would seem to be possible to adapt any LCD module, with a daughter board
between the LCD and the board, as long as you're willing to forgo the fancy lettered indicators and just get little dots for each of them instead. The most important part, the 7-segment numbers, should be fine. --scott |
