Re: PRM4021 issue
All kinds of things can cause loss of VFO over some range of frequencies,
including bad switch contacts and screwed up solder joints on the divider chain. If you're dividing by something nonsensical, the PLL won't lock up. The scope will tell you what you're actually dividing by. --scott |

Re: PRM4021 issue
If he does not have any of that equipment he can make up A simple R.F probe that he can put on the end of a VTVM Or a DMM. It is just a diode and a small cap. That will Let you have any output from that oscillator. Lattor Don ----- Original Message ----- From: moosey@... [Racal-manpacks] To: Racal-manpacks@... What do you have in the way of test equipment or other radios? Are you able to 'listen' for the VCO output (frequency select switch settings plus 35.4 MHz)? It should be possible to hear this on another radio with its aerial placed near to the 4021. If so, see if the VCO is present when you tune between 6 and 8 MHz (VCO should be 41.4 MHz to 43.4 MHz). Good luck, Peter |

PRM4021 issue
Hello, I have an issue with my?'4021 where there seems to be a silent gap from around 6-8 mHz. No change in noise if I remove the antenna. It appears to be only in that area. Anything above or below, the radio seems to operational. Before I start tearing into her, I thought I would reach out to the experts to see if they have heard of such a problem? Any and all help is much appreciated. Ernest KK6IVE |

Duncan,
?
The Syncal battery is nominally 22.8 volts as it has 19 cells
in it. Usually you will find it sits at around 26 volts if it has been charged
fairly recently.
?
There are a range of Axtronics chargers, the one I was selling
was the 768 on the Strikalite site. The one you mention is a different one and
would be ok for Jaguar/Panther?batteries etc?but not the Syncal
30.

Re: Syncal 30 battery charger
JU BALCAIN
开云体育Hi guys,
The 931 Syncal runs on 24 volts. I have one here but no batteries for it. I have all the ancillary stuff and full service manual. Also the little bolt on charger that connects to 12 volts and has some sort of oscillator in it that boosts the voltage high enough to charge the 24 volt battery. It was issued to me in old Rhodesia and when I was told to "Stand down" I asked "what do I do with the radio " and was told to give it back to Robert M. I'm in Canada now and that old set has followed me around for years. I prefer to use my ICOM 703. Jim VE3DDY "Duncan Hawkins duncan.hawkins@... [Racal-manpacks]" wrote: ?

Re: Syncal 30 battery charger
Is the battery pack not 24v? ? The charger is suitable for ( I quote) "this Axtronics battery charger that will charge 2.4volts up to 14.4volts (2-12 cells) worth of Ni-Cad / NiMH batteries so it will do anything from 700mAh up to 5000mAh cells." Or does the Syncal 30 run off 12v ?? I thought it was 24v Duncan ? On Fri, Jan 23, 2015 at 6:45 PM, kkyahoo@... [Racal-manpacks] <Racal-manpacks@...> wrote:

Syncal 30 battery charger
I have a mint boxed Axtronics charger surplus to requirements. It is a pulsed type charger so is good for rejuvenating bad cells, it's also a negative delta V type and stops charging when the battery voltage starts to downturn and is fully charged. Output is 500mA so it is relatively gentle on your battery, I found that my battery did not feel even slightly warm when fully charged so it is pretty efficient, and safe. Model number is H02400005-XX-D1. It comes complete with a UK plug and IEC connector. Output via croc clips. AC input is universal and will charge battery packs from 12 to 20 cells, so will also do Clansman 320 battery packs too. I thought I would offer it here to group members rather than stick it on eBay. Looking for ?20 shipped in the UK. Strikalite sell them for ?34 shipped so grab yourself a bargain! Thanks Kevin |

TRA 931-X fault finding
开云体育I have a TRA931-X that I’m troubleshooting. Initially it was complete dead and it turned out that the fuse was bridged with a wire and the mode switch contacts were damaged. I replaced both to find that there was a full short circuit on the DC input. This was caused by defective PA end transistors so I disconnected them and the short was gone. ? When I switched on the radio it immediately came in transmit mode and I think now I’m on to the initial problem. When I disabled the TX/TX relay the radio went to RX mode and it is working fine on receive. I suspected the PTT circuit because pin C on the audio was not grounded yet the line to the TX/RX relay was active (grounded) ? When I did some checking around the circuit I found the CW key input was always grounded hence it triggered the TX mode. According to the circuits in the manual I have (the manual that is also on the VMARS website) this should be a piece of cake because the key pin E on both audio plugs is directly connected to the key input connection on A41 of the MA930X board. ? Unfortunately not so on my version of the TRA931X. Pin E on audio 1 and audio 2 are not connected. The audio 2 pin E is connected to connection 11 of the switching and fixed level audio board but this is floating so is not the cause of the problem. Pin E on audio 1 is grounded somewhere and I yet have to discover where it is connected to. For sure not to A41 key input of the MA930X board because they have a different colour. ? A further complication is that the switching and fixed level audio board in my radio is of a different (higher?) revision. It has 11 connection points and a different layout where the one in the manual has 10 connection points. The PCB number of my version is 713250 and the one in the manual is 713163. The same is true for the ATU relay board. This is of a different layout and has only one relay instead of two on the one in the manual. ? Does someone know why the key line pin E on the audio plugs are no longer connected in parallel? Doe someone ever came across a newer version of the TRA931X schematics? ? Thanks, ? Nico – PA3ESA ? |
