Re: Racal TRA932 Comcal crystal frequency formula
to: PA3ESA
Good afternoon, Nico, just read your message re above. I have the smaller brother, the TRA 921 (2 - 8 MHz, synthesizer). In the copy of the manual which I have there is also a section covering the TRA 922, which features a 49 channel crystal oscillator. In case it may help, I will give you some details about that: "Five channel oscillator circuits are fitted, and each is provided with ten crystals (nine crystals in the case of oscillator No. 1), one of which is selected by the 'digits' channel switch. One of the five oscillators is activated by the 'tens' channel switch, thus bringing the selected oscillator, with its selected crystal, into circuit. A clarifier provides fine control of the channel oscillator frequency, and thus adjusts both the transmit and receive frequencies. A separate oscillator and amplifier is fitted to provide the 10.7 MHz output. This output is muted when A.M. VOICE reception is used." "CHANNEL CRYSTALS A crystal is fitted for each of the required channels. The crystal frequency required equals operating frequency plus 10.7 MHz, i.e. if Channel 3 is to operate at 2.587 MHz, then a crystal of 13.287 MHz must be inserted in the No. 3 Position." This 49 channel crystal oscillator is called MA 923. Perhaps yours is similar? Best rgds., Peter, DC6BN+ |

Racal TRA932 Comcal crystal frequency formula
pa3esa
I recently picked up a couple of TRA932's of which not all channels are equipped with crystals. Can someone tell me what the formula is to calculate the crystal frequency for a given RF frequency?
If there is any documentation available that would be nice as well. Kind regards, Nico - PA3ESA |

Re: PRM-4051 Rear BNC Socket.
开云体育Hi Dave
?
I am not sure about nets stateside, I live in the UK, we have regular nets
here on 80mtrs around 3,615khz.
?
As for amps that can operate with your radio, there is the TA 940B, the TA
4044, the TA 4034, take your pick, I have no other info, save to say you will
probably need a tuner after the amp
?
Cheers

No, they are UK kit. They used to appear on the www.ebay.co.uk site fairly often so it is worth keeping an eye open there in case they come up again. You can see an example at I believe I have a copy of a 4720 brochure somewhere. If I do, and I can find it, I will scan it and put it up in the files section. Dear Howard, and of course all others!!
Many thanks for the quick replies! I use my PRM with an adapter for normal batteries powered with 8 X 1,5 volt so i not must have a (quick) charger, it was only nice to know. Howard, sorry but i can not find any speakermics which are compatible for the cougar series on ebay? Do you mean the american ones, but they have the us-mil 6-pin plug... Kind regards, Thorsten |

The 4720B2 has a built in microphone and speaker as well as a 7 pin Clansman connector. The original 4720 has a flat case and needs an external handset. 4720B2s were manufactured in the Phillipines under licence - I assume they were also made by Racal in the UK. Some turned up about eight years ago with a Japanese dealer. Some are available from Murphy in the US. Often the 4720B2s were inoperable. Just removing the case and seating the processor correctly in its socket fixed most of them. Howard VK4BS On 30/08/2010 21:38, mogzall wrote:

Syncal 30 / TRA 931
开云体育There was recently a
question on paint for mil radios. A model company Tamiya make plastic military
model kits. They also do spray cans in a very large range of military colours.
So many that you will need to take your radio to the model shop. I have found
exact matches possible. One can does a radio no problem.

So far as I know the tx power is fixed. There is a charger for the batteries that you connect to a DC supply and clip on to the battery but I have not come across a drop-in charger. I use mine with the Clansman handsets and the speaker/mic you see on eBay occasionally described as being for Cougar. I guess you already know the channels can be programmed for half duplex as well as simplex? Howard VK4BS On 31/08/2010 02:52, Thorsten Umlauf wrote:

Re: PRM-4720 Question

Hi Howard,
I can programm the radio and want to know, if i can set the tx power for each channel seperatly or if it is possible at all for this radio? Also it will be interesting, if some one have got some extras like an mobile charger ore an power amplifier for it? What speaker mics will run with the radio because all time the handset is not the best way for all moments... Many thanks and best wishes, greetings Thorsten |

Hi Ian
?
I am guessing the BNC output is for connection to Amplifier, in vehicle Config, as I sometimes have the PRM 4090 fitted in my landrover with assoc Amp, number for amp just escapes me at the minute, as regards the battery the 4025A is listed in my Racal Bible as battery pack ni-cad 12v 4ah for 4021/4031/4041A/ 4041C/4051 and the aforementioned PRM 4090
?
the 4025D is listed as battery unit Ni-cad 12v 4ah (fast Charge), and I would imagine your charger will work fine, in fact I know it will, just get the charging rate set correctly

PRM-4720 Question

Hi group,
Can anybody give me some informations about the RACAL radio PRM-4720? In the file, picture and message section i can only find informations about the 25kHz to 12,5kHz mod, but nothing about a manual or other details... If any one can help me please feel free to mail or give a tip for an external link, google and other searchengines does not find really much for this radio... Thanks and best regards, Thorsten |
