battery Charger for BB-590/U Battery?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

?
Hi Group
?
Anyone got an Ex Mil charger that will typically charge BB-590/U battery's, the charger if you have one will probably charge other batt types as well, let me know if you have something like, WHY ?

Re: PRM-4051 PSK31 Interface

Ian

I am not sure if the Racal branded sets behave the same way as the Clansman ones with regard to PTT (My Racal experience is RT350 and R351/2). If so beware that the G8TXJ design has a 1.5K potentiometer on the radio side of the microphone transformer, and Clansman sets are keyed by a 1.6K impedance between microphone and mic ground - some also support PTT to ground and the Clansman headsets have a DPST PTT which makes both connections.

Provided the station you are working is near the middle of the audio band in the PSK31 waterfall display - say 1 to 1.5KHz - I think more or less any SSB set should work well - the issue will filtering if there is one will be if you don't tune the radio to center the wanted station and instead try to work stations near the edge of the waterfall. I am planning to try PSK on my RT320 soon so will find out if that's a good theory !

If this is the case for the PRM4051 you will need to add a capacitor or wire the relay to disconnect the Mic circuit when the radio is not keyed if you use the G8TXJ circuit as printed,

PRM-4051 PSK31 Interface

Having read the excellent article in this month's Radcom from G8TXJ regarding the VOX operated PSK31 interface I am wondering if it would be compatable with my PRM-4051. Would the 600ohm transformers be a suitable match for the i/p and o/p audio circuits on the '4051 ? Does anyone have some details as to the levels and impedances required by the '4051 (they must be the same as the Syncal TRA-931 as they use the same standard Racal handset) ?
I was going to omit the USB soundcard included in G8TXJ's design for simplicity, just using the soundcard in my PC.
Have any list members tried PSK31 on a Racal manpack using the audio circuits, will the audio filtering within the set be unsuitable for data modes ? All thoughts gratefully received.

Hi ?Peter
this letter you intended for Pa3ESA came to me by mistake..its a bit more technical than im ready for..? If i may i do have a question though.
If a radio isos using "solid state" then its not going to have crystals right?? its going to have final transisters for the frequebcies its supposed to cover..am i correect?
Im still hunting a 9:1 balen i havent givin up..My antenna is up and im trying different configurations for a while to see which will work bewse . Im in no hurry. Do you know the proper linear to uise with out radio?

Good afternoon, Nico,

just read your message re above.
I have the smaller brother, the TRA 921 (2 - 8 MHz, synthesizer). In the
copy of the manual which I have there is also a section covering the TRA
922, which features a 49 channel crystal oscillator. In case it may help, I
will give you some details about that:

"Five channel oscillator circuits are fitted, and each is provided with ten
crystals (nine crystals in the case of oscillator No. 1), one of which is
selected by the 'digits' channel switch. One of the five oscillators is
activated by the 'tens' channel switch, thus bringing the selected
oscillator, with its selected crystal, into circuit. A clarifier provides
fine control of the channel oscillator frequency, and thus adjusts both the
transmit and receive frequencies.

A separate oscillator and amplifier is fitted to provide the 10.7 MHz
output. This output is muted when A.M. VOICE reception is used."

"CHANNEL CRYSTALS
A crystal is fitted for each of the required channels. The crystal frequency
required equals operating frequency plus 10.7 MHz, i.e. if Channel 3 is to
operate at 2.587 MHz, then a crystal of 13.287 MHz must be inserted in the
No. 3 Position."

This 49 channel crystal oscillator is called MA 923. Perhaps yours is
similar?

Hi Howard,

thank you for your reply and clearing my question. O.k. I decided to want the 4720. So if there is someone who clear up his shack please make an offer.

The IF frequency is 35,400 Mhz so if you want 3.7 Mhz 80 mtr band it is 3,7 + 35.400 =39.100 the crystal frequency i also trying to find documentation for the comcal 30, i have fitted a usb sdrkits.net crystal unit witch i can select any frequency works a treat tony swan M0EUY

I recently picked up a couple of TRA932's of which not all channels are equipped with crystals. Can someone tell me what the formula is to calculate the crystal frequency for a given RF frequency?
If there is any documentation available that would be nice as well.

Kind regards,

Nico - PA3ESA

Hi Dave
?
I am not sure about nets stateside, I live in the UK, we have regular nets here on 80mtrs around 3,615khz.
?
As for amps that can operate with your radio, there is the TA 940B, the TA 4044, the TA 4034, take your pick, I have no other info, save to say you will probably need a tuner after the amp
?

No, they are UK kit. They used to appear on the www.ebay.co.uk site fairly often so it is worth keeping an eye open there in case they come up again. You can see an example at

I believe I have a copy of a 4720 brochure somewhere. If I do, and I can find it, I will scan it and put it up in the files section.

Re: PRM 4720

Matthias

The 4720B2 has a built in microphone and speaker as well as a 7 pin Clansman connector. The original 4720 has a flat case and needs an external handset.

4720B2s were manufactured in the Phillipines under licence - I assume they were also made by Racal in the UK. Some turned up about eight years ago with a Japanese dealer. Some are available from Murphy in the US.

Often the 4720B2s were inoperable. Just removing the case and seating the processor correctly in its socket fixed most of them.

If anyone in the UK is interested in an "empty" one of these, but in good cosmetic condition with protective front cover, heavy duty protective mounting plate, Jeep (etc) shelves (one narrowed to allow rear seat to still fold on?a Hotchkiss M201), antenna mount, and two whips, please contact me off-list.

There was recently a question on paint for mil radios. A model company Tamiya make plastic military model kits. They also do spray cans in a very large range of military colours. So many that you will need to take your radio to the model shop. I have found exact matches possible. One can does a radio no problem.

Re: PRM-4720 Question

Hi Thorsten

So far as I know the tx power is fixed. There is a charger for the batteries that you connect to a DC supply and clip on to the battery but I have not come across a drop-in charger. I use mine with the Clansman handsets and the speaker/mic you see on eBay occasionally described as being for Cougar.

I guess you already know the channels can be programmed for half duplex as well as simplex?
