Ron,
Depending on the physical size of the 2.8Ah battery, it might be an option to obtain a dry battery case for the 967 (they still turn up on eBay, new in original packing from time to time, not that expensive), and remove the internal dividers and other bits, then slide the new battery into the case if it'll fit? (With a fast blow fuse in the supply from it, as it would wreak havoc inside the rig if there were a short circuit)
I'm not sure if your 967 has the older 6 pin Larkspur socket, or the later 7 pin Clansman type? (Mine is 7 pin, but I've seen 6 as well). If its the 7 pin version, one pin is often connected to the switched supply rail, to power ancilleries from the rig, etc
My EMER type info locally gives the following connections, but do thoroughly check first on your rig to make sure:
Larkspur 6 pin socket
A Microphone live or inner
B Microphone shield or outer
C PTT
D PTT and Headphone earth
E No connection (usually!)
F Headphones/AF output
Clansman, etc, 7 pin socket
A Microphone live or inner
B Microphone outer (can be isolated for balanced mic inputs)
C Switched +ve supply to/from battery (may be via blocking diode)
D Headphones/AF output
E Earth/chassis
F PTT
G Headphones/AF output, commoned to D on most rigs, but can feed earpieces separately on harness systems
Various rigs do various things with the transmit and receive audio, including the use of balanced mic inputs, and bi-aural headphone outputs, hence the strapped audio lines on most Clansman or later kit
Loads of 7 pin audio plugs/headset leads on eBay, stripped off headsets, etc, as well as new 7 pin plugs if you want to wire your own. 6 pin plugs a bit harder to find, probably easier to find an old Larkspur mic or headset and strip the lead off it, again eBay often have this sort of thing very cheaply. Watch out for headsets wired with copper "tinsel" felxible wiring, as they won't take any current, if you try feeding the 967 on tx via it.
Best of luck, and Happy New Year
Rgds

Nice to hear from you Al and I hope you get those cobwebs dusted off the rig and get it back on the air!
Perhaps you or other members of the group can help me with the next stage of the project.
I am currently using the Racal battery case with 10 C NimH cells for portable work but I would like to use a SLA as a back-up supply.
I have a small SLA of 2.8Ah capacity which is almost the same size as the Racal battery case and has the correct orientation of the terminals.
All I need to do is fabricate a suitable attachment system to the '967.
An easier solution though would be to feed the supply voltage via the audio socket, so does anyone know of a source for the audio plug or a ready made DC lead?
Many thanks and best wishes to all for 2007.
Ron, GW4EVX

Ron,
Glad you got your TRA 967 going /P: I have'nt used mine for years now, will have to dig it out, as it certainly works very well, sensitive rx, and (in my case) about 2W output. The whip that came with mine peaked at about 47MHz, and was'nt very good on 4m, so I used a ground-spike whip with mine.
Christmas greetings,
Rgds

Hi All,
Thanks to the info received from Dan AC6AO and the loan of a manual
from Bill G3TRX my TRA-967 is now fully operational (minus the 150Hz
pilot tone!).
I don't presently have a 4m antenna at the home station so I went to
a local high spot (IO83JF, 270m asl) and operated from the car using
a 5/8 whip.
As I suspected the deviation is probably a touch too high but
generally the reports on the audio were good.
Had three contacts in half an hour, the best 'dx' being 114km, not
bad going for 3W!
When the wx warms up a bit I will do some more trials backpacking up
the Clwydian Hills and see how the 1metre whip works out on 4m and 6m.
Will keep you posted.
Best wishes,
Ron, GW4EVX (usually /P!)
