80 was very noisy though I could just work the VMARS net on 3615
40 was much better and I did work the RSARS net.
Sorry, I actually forgot your net!!
The whole of Europe, so it seems, was on 40!
With only 20w I had a hard time getting in

Mike, nothing from the sked but did work a G station at Flambrough Head.
Either good NVIS or Sporadic E.Used using BCC39B.
Maybe worth having a go on 40m day time weekends above 7.1 to clear the
bedlam.Condx on 40m are very variable at the moment with inter G harder
that Europe.Malta would be easy on 40 right now.
Regards Keith.

Hi everybody,
I am new to this group. I have intention to buy a racal TRA3900/BCC67.
After reading post in this group about this radio, I found that this
radio was a prototype. Can someone share with me experience with this
transceiver? Can frequency easely be changed? The seller told me that
it was not a frequency hopping radio. As my intention is to use it
with other ham on 50 Mhz,this parameter is very important. Thanks in
advance and sorry for my bad english
Best regards
Alex

Hello Alex,
The TRA3900 was a prototype for the bowman project in the UK. The BCC67 was an actual transceiver from racal. They used in that time the BCC67 as a base for the TRA3900. Internal they are more ore less the same, but the names for the signals/ wires and markings on the pcb are different.
The BCC67 of 66 or panther or jaguar, all names for the same family has more successor. The canadian use the PRC 522 (combat radio has one for sale). I would not recommend the the TRA3900. The have some problems. for instance my TRA3900 sometimes refuse to initalise and the next day it works great. Also is the frequency setting awkward. you can only program channels and the switch to that channel. You can not just enter the frequency from the keypad like the BCC67
It is a frequency hopping radio, but you can also work in normal mode, but the squelch operates only on a 150Hz subtone. You can only use the hopping and secure modes if you can fill the radio with a pc, or fill gunn.

Hi group,
Does anybody know where I can get a copy of the full service manual
for a Comcal TRA922 manpack?
This is the crystal controlled version of the TRA921, covering 2-8
MHz, LSB, USB, AM and CW.
I currently have some circuits and a few sheets of the manual, but
need more information so that I can do a proper fault-findings and
alignment.
Regards,
Norman.
