Re: PRC320 and dipole?

Iaian hi im dave KG4LQT
if i have a question for you or anytone who can answer,, I have a racal 921with only room for one anntenna im thinking of a multiband antenna for both 40 and 80 meters which are the bands i use the most.? do you know anyone who uses a multui band antenna as opposedd to constantly changing the length of the dipole or long wire end fed,? If you do,,do you know which one works best?? Im a disabled guy and once i get the antenmna up i want ti leave it there.\I have a small but sturdy mast to attach it to,
thank you very much your expertise

Feeding the dipole with coax from the transmitter output BNC is the correct
way to do it - the operator is expected to roll up or unroll the dipole
ends for best match. There was a thread on the clansman_larkspur group a
few months ago about using the ATU for a dipole (with one leg connected to
case ground and one to the antenna terminal) and I seem to recall that the
conclusion was that a series capacitor of a few 10s of pf and a suitably
high voltage rating between the antenna terminal and that leg of the dipole
helped it match.
