Re: Rebuilding battery packs

James Bell

Hi Bob,
I replaced the cells in my Syncal 30 battery. Initially the Nicad cells had diodes across each cell to prevent reversal but with the new NiMh cells I left them off as the NiMhcells don't have reversal problems.
I used some 4500 mAh cells that I pulled from computer batteries and had to charge / discharge them quite a few times before they started to work properly. If you use old cells from laptop batteries then don't give up if they appear to have lost capacity . All mine that I thought were dud came back to full specs. Frequently the problems with computer batteries is the internal charger circuits and heat sensing circuits.

Hi, All,

I'm about to replace cells in at least one manpack
battery pack.

Have any of you any experience of replacing with the
greater capacity nicad cells which have become
available since the original packs were first made, or
even replacing them with different battery technology?

I'm thinking particularly in terms of retaining
compatibility with original Racal chargers.

While on the subject, are any of the rest of you using
the BCC.533 charger?

best regards,

Bob
