Hello Everyone,

This is a reminder that tomorrow (September 11^th) is the second Sunday of the month and time for the next FEMA Region 5 AUXCOMM Winlink Net.? This net is held on the second and fourth Sunday of each month and is open to all amateur radio operators and SHARES stations everywhere. ?

This week, please prepare and send a Local Weather Report.? Here’s how:

?

If you have a Winlink Account:

1. Open Winlink Express.

2. Open a new message form:

? 2a. Click the new message icon or click 'Message' then 'New Message'.

3. Open a new Local Weather Report form.

? 3a. On the top line ribbon menu of your New Message form, click 'Select Template'.

? 3b. Click the?+ sign next to 'Standard Templates'.

? 3c. Click the + sign next to 'Mapping-GIS Forms'.

? 3d. Double click ‘Local Weather Report'.

? 3e. You web browser will open and display a Local Weather Report form.

4. The first few fields at the top of the form are, pretty much self-explanatory.

4a. For ‘Location’ enter a public location near you.? I encourage you, for safety reasons, not to list your home location.

4b. For ‘Latitude and Longitude’ (Lat and Lon), enter the coordinates of the public space you used for the Location field.

4c. Don’t worry about the ‘MGRS’ and ‘Grid’ fields, the system will fill them in for you.

4d. For ‘Measurements Used’ select the ‘Imperial’ button.

5. The next nine items on the form are self-explanatory especially if you have a home weather station.? If not, the information for these items is readily available on the internet.

6. In the ‘Notes’ area, enter ‘Exercise 2022-17’.

7. If you wish, click the 'Save Local Weather Data' button to save your information to your computer.

8. Click the 'Submit' button to send the information on your form to your New Message form in Winlink Express.

??????????? 8a. The form on your web browser will disappear.

??????????? 8b. Close the empty web browser window.

9. Go to Winlink Express and the New Message form you created. ?You should see the information you entered on the web browser form.

10. On the ribbon menu near the top of the New Message window, click ‘Save in Drafts'.

On Sunday (September 11th):

1. Open Winlink Express.

2. Under ‘System Folders’ open the ‘Drafts’ folder.

3. Double click the message you saved earlier.

??????????? 3a. Your message will open in a pop-up window.

??????????? 3b. On the top line of the pop-up window, click ‘Post to Outbox’.

??????????????????????? 3b1. The pop-up window will close, and your message is moved to the Outbox.

4. On the top line ribbon menu next to 'Open Session', select the mode you want to use to send your message(s).? Then click 'Open Session'.? Then click 'Start'.? Watch the magic happen.

If you don't currently have a Winlink account, please open one.? Winlink Express is free as is use of the Winlink system.? In the meantime, use the following procedure to send an email via Winlink.

1. Open your email client.

2. Open a new message form

3. In the 'To' field enter 'W9REL@...'

4. In the 'Subject line' enter '//WL2K Exercise 2022-17 FEMA Region 5 AUXCOMM Winlink Net'.? The '//WL2K’ is required, otherwise Winlink will reject your message.

5. In the text of your email, enter:

5a. Your callsign, first name, date/time, Location (enter the name of a public place near you), state abbreviation, and county.

5b. The latitude and longitude of the location you entered above.

5c. The current weather condition (clear, rain, thunderstorm, hail, snow, blizzard, tornado, hurricane, fog, cloudy).

5d. The temperature, humidity, and dewpoint.

5e. Barometer reading.

5f. Cloud cover description.

5g. Rainfall amount.

5h. Snowfall per hour and total.

5i. Additional notes, if any.

6. On Sunday (September 11th) send your email.
