Hi,
As I had recently had my results back from 23andMe I thought I¡¯d share them in case they were of interest.?
A couple of years ago I upgraded my Y-DNA with FTDNA to what was the Big-Y test at the time of 500 markers. The result of this test was that I was located in a branch BY-21614 embedded within the Sheehan family name.?
The result of the Y-DNA from 23andMe was A-923. My assumption had been that this would be a throwaway test however when I looked there was not a huge difference with the FTDNA result. The comparison haplotrees descending from CTS-4466 are:
FTDNA
23andMe
These results seemed surprisingly consistent to me especially as I was expecting much lower resolution from 23and Me. The FTDNA result can of course give much more information than just the haplogroup, with the database of Y-DNA matches, the work by Nigel McCarthy and James Kane and, as Lucas noted, the fact that one is making a contribution to research by doing a more detailed test.?

Lucas and Rusty thanks!
All this makes sense, and it¡¯s time for the BigY kit. ? Looking at my FT SNP positive (green) variant detail I see that L270 and FT43021 are presumed positive, while Z16518, Z16519 and?Z16521 all show confirmed positives with A1133 positive as my FT terminal SNP (for now). ??
My closest FT ¡°Z¡± match is Z16518, Ryan James Barry who I match across 25 thru 111 markers with GD 9 at 111.
What are the estimated timeframes for A1133 vs Z16518 vs FT43021? ? Thanks.
Ed
