Chorduroy! Quartet is going to the Rising Star Contest!
Hello Region 11. Do you remember all the times you dropped your dollars, fives and sometimes even twenties into those bags being passed around at regional events in support of our Young Women in Harmony fund? Today you will be pleased to learn that your dollars are going to work. At this time, your Regional Management Team would like to introduce you to Chorduroy! Quartet: Sarah Katz, Tenor Grace Nulsen, lead Emma Lopez, Bass Olivia White, Baritone Sarah, Oliva and Emma are Youth members of Region 11 and sing with the Santa Monica Chorus. The RMT is thrilled to announce that due to your generous contributions to the YWIH fund, Region 11 is able to provide financial support for Chorduroy!, who will be participating in the Rising Star Quartet Contest on July 26 in Tulsa, Oklahoma as Contestant #2. Rising Star is an educational tool and performance opportunity open to singers under 26 years of age. The competition is held by Sweet Adelines International for the purpose of recognizing superior participation by young women in the barbershop art form. Let’s all support Chorduroy! by cheering them on via the Rising Star livestream. Go to https://sweetadelines.com/events/rising-star-quartet-contest for more information on how to watch. And if you would like to continue your support of young singers in Region 11, please consider donating today by clicking on the donate button at sairegion11.org. You can specify that your donation is for the Region 11 YWIH fund. And of course, pack your dollars because you will see those bags again soon at Summer Sizzler! Best regards, Lora Goodpasture Communications Coordinator, Region 11

Summer Sizzler is almost here!
Hello Regional Heaven! I’m Tammy. I am your Education Coordinator. I had a vision when I took this job during the pandemic. Actually, I didn’t take it during the pandemic. I took it before but we got locked down before my first event. I wanted us to come together as a Region, but more importantly as human beings who love what we do. Covid changed everything! Well, it didn’t change everything. It just changed how we do everything. I still want us to come together as a Region, and as human beings who love what we do. If you’ve been a Sweet Adeline for more than five minutes, you have heard the same information repeatedly. My vision for our Summer Sizzler this year was that we could take all of the information that we have heard repeatedly and put it to use. It is vitally important that we attend this seminar with the understanding that our directors are the keepers of this knowledge. Nearly all of YOUR directors are participating in this weekend. Each of them wish to share with you their pearls of wisdom and the things that they have learned over the years from our “Famous Faculty”. My hopeful goal was to have no less than 200 people at our Summer Sizzler this year. We currently have just over 130. That’s about 65 members per Seminar Chorus. I would love us to experience what it feels like to be part of a large Chorus. If you’re on the fence about coming this weekend, please find a way to make it happen. Regional Heaven really is the best place to be. Together we can show everyone how it’s done. Registration remains open until July 1st. There’s still time to sign up. And as of today you still have six weeks to get a good handle on the two really fun songs we’ll be using for the weekend. I hope to see you there! Tammy Tammy Ragsdale Master Director, Verdugo Hills Chorus Education Coordinator, Sequoia Pacifica Region 11 Tenor, Eclectic Mix Quartet (805)218-7268

Summer Sizzler Registration - open
Hi Region 11! Sue Walker's computer is in the shop, so she authorized me to send this message out to let you know: SS 2024 Registration is now open. https://www.sairegion11.org/SummerSizzler2024 Things to know: Registration is similar to how we did it for Contest this year - you add the Region 11 AET to your Cart in order to "register" and then answer the questions about your name, your chorus, etc. that will go on your AET badge. You MUST do this step, otherwise you won't be officially registered and assigned to one of the color choruses! If you just purchased the WC Show ticket and didn't add the AET, we don't need to void that transaction; just go back in and "purchase" your free AET. The Hotel reservation link will be sent out on Monday, June 3. The links to the Novice Quartet and Double Quartet information and registration forms can be found on the information page - registration for those contests will be cut off when we have SIX entries for each, or July 1, whichever comes first. Links to the two new songs that will be used by the color choruses are also on the information page. There will also be links to two additional songs - STAY TUNED! Don't forget to support our fabulous Winners' Circle by purchasing a dinner/show/afterglow ticket, and read all about the Winners' Circle on the information page! NOTE: Tickets for the WC Show WILL NOT be available on-site - you must purchase during registration! Watch this space for more information about the weekend as it becomes available, including the official schedule, the Sourcebook, and MORE! On behalf of the Summer Sizzler Registration and Communications teams, Laura La Borde Finance Coordinator Sequoia Pacifica Region 11

Summer Sizzler - Auditions Are Open For The Starring Roles!
Calling all Region 11 Stars!! How would you like to have a starring role on the Region 11 Winners' Circle Show at Summer Sizzler?? The Winners' Circle is now casting two main characters for our upcoming show: There's No Place Like Kansas City! It's your chance to shine!! **** In order to audition you must: 1. Be attending Summer Sizzler Saturday, August 3rd 2. Send a video of yourself reading the following lines by Thursday, May 23rd Below is a character breakdown and a small segment of lines from the show! Please let us know which part you would like to be considered for and send a video link (phone footage is fine) by May 23rd to lindalborg@.... **** Characters: DOROTHY - Straight from the Wizard of Oz. After clicking her heels together, she wakes up in Kansas City rather than Kansas. NARRATOR - A showy, jazzy character who's not afraid of the spotlight. **** PLEASE READ for one of the following parts. Reading by yourself OR with someone else is acceptable. Either way, please react to the other characters' lines before responding. We want to see how creative you can be! Script: DOROTHY: Wow, the music here sure is swell. I’m learning all kinds of new things like what overtones sound like…and that boots are made for walking…who knew? I wouldn’t have gotten so many blisters on the yellow brick road if I had had a good pair of walking boots! NARRATOR: That right there, Dorothy, is my favorite quartet. And they definitely didn’t just pay me to say that. (wink) DOROTHY: Did you just take a bribe? NARRATOR: (ignores her) It’s time to see what the second chorus has been cookin’ up for us. DOROTHY: How much of a bribe would it cost me to sing with the next chorus? NARRATOR: Dorothy, my pretty, you’re interrupting my flow. (she starts again) It’s time to see what the second chorus has been cookin’ up for us. Either we’re about to get some barbecue or they’re ready to set this joint on fire... DOROTHY: I could really see myself singing barbershop too! I already have the perfect quartet in mind with my friends the Scarecrow, the Tinman, and the Lion! We could call ourselves “The Ruby Slippers” NARRATOR: I need those ruby sli..Uh, yeah, I need to know what part you would sing? DOROTHY: Oh, well I’m not sure. NARRATOR: Better figure it out. Take a look at this next group, fresh off the train here at the Kansas City station, they’re ready to jump into International... Thank you, The Winners' Circle Show Committee
