New Region 11 Web site UP!
After several months of work, the all-new Region 11 Web site is up and
running. It has been completely redesigned by the very talented Marcia
Loftin of Agoura Hills Harmony. She's worked many, many (many) hours to
create this most informative site.
As I'm sure you know, a Web site is a "living" thing -- it will be updated on
a regular basis. Marcia and I have spent lots of time making sure that links
work, that information is correct, and that we haven't left anything out. If
you see an error, find an omission, or have a suggestion, please let Marcia
(lmloftin@...) or me know right away.
WARNING: If you go to the site from work, be aware that the music to "Sweet
Adeline" starts playing right away when the site loads. Marcia will change
the music default to OFF in the next day or so. But for now, unless you want
all your co-workers to know what you're doing (!), you might want to access
the site from home or wait for a few days!!
BIG TIME thanks to Marcia Loftin for her expertise and vision for this site!
Click Here: Home Page or type
www.sai-reg11.com (and then wait for the 1st page to load completely before
you hit "Click to Enter"!)

Trial scoring at Fall/Winter - sign up now!
Region 11 again is offering a Trial Scoring opportunity at the 2001
Fall/Winter Regional Seminar during the Novice Quartet Contest on
Friday, November 9 in Bakersfield.
This is an excellent educational opportunity for singers of all levels
of expertise to learn more about our craft -- and everyone interested
in learning more about the specifics of a specific category should
consider participating!
This seminar's distinguished panel of judges you'll be working with
will include Dot Calvin in the category of Music, Judy Ashmore in the
category of Sound, Linda Taylor in the category of Expression, and
Peggy Hels in the category of Showmanship.
Anyone and everyone in your chorus is encouraged to pick a category,
pick up a pencil, and learn what judging is all about. All you need to
do is send me a note at the address below or -- better yet -- send me
an e-mail indicating your interest. Be sure you include your name,
chorus name, address, and the category - Music, Expression, Sound or
Showmanship - that you'd be interested in judging.
A pre-contest briefing will be held to give out paperwork and go over
each category and the use of scoresheets. Post-contest meetings with
individual judges will be held to answer questions and evaluate the
scoring work.
Attendance is limited to the first 17 applicants, so be sure to sign up
today! All participants will receive notification prior to competition
weekend of their judging category and the schedule for the pre-contest
briefing.
This is a fun class, a great way to see and hear the contest, and an
opportunity to take a walk in a judge's "shoes." I look forward to
seeing you in Bakersfield!
In harmony,
Kathy Laderman

Lost & Found...
This was posted to another e-group I belong to.
Debbie Curtis
--------------
Hi everyone,
One of our chorus members found a Sweet Adeline of the Year pin in Portland.
I don't know why she didn't turn it in to the "Lost and Found", but she
didn't. Instead she gave it to me at Chorus on Wednesday. It is an oval
shape, quite large, with gold printing on a navy blue background. It has a
logo with a Maple Leaf, a Star and a 16th note, and the words "Sweet Adeline
of the Year". I'm sure it is very special to someone. If you hear of a member
in your region who has lost such a pin, please have them contact me, and I
will mail it to them. My home e-mail is carolmargue@....
Thanks,
Carol Argue, CTC

Ie-new songs or re-working
€ Now the best way for this to work would be if the member can, they would take their tape home and dub it themselves and bring the tape back for their dubber to keep and have at hand if something needs to be revised.

"Year in Review" video
(I apologize in advance if you receive 2 or more copies of this message --
some of you are on more than one of my e-lists).
----------------------
Hi all!
I've been asked by the Regional Management Team to develop another slide
presentation similar to the one I created for the Winner's Circle Show last
August. I will create the slide presentation, add music (I think??) and then
copy it to video for showing at the Sunday Brunch during competition weekend.
I'm going to create two slide presentations:
-- "A Look Back at Region 11"
This video will have some vintage clips and photos from recent years, as
well as years and years (and years!) ago.
-- "2001: The Year in Review"
This video will show the highlights of this past year -- choruses,
competing quartets, and regional happenings.
Here's where I need your help -- or the help from someone in your
chorus/quartet. I am looking for photos to include in both videos mentioned
above.
If you have old photos for the "history" video -- of your old quartet,
chorus, candids, etc. -- I'd love to borrow them. It'll be really fun to look
back at those funny costumes and to remember friends.
As for the 2001 video -- I'd like to get about 5 photos that will give a fun,
quick look at what happened to your chorus or quartet this year. I'm looking
for candid photos -- I don't need official competition photos since I already
have all of those. Some ideas: photos of chorus members at a performance or
social event, funny photos from your retreat, or photos taken during a
regional weekend. Don't forget to include a fun picture of your director(s)
if you have one!
I also plan to have a "Passages" portion on the 2001 video -- a tribute to
Region 11 Sweet Adelines we've lost this year. So please send a photo if you
have someone in your chorus you'd like to honor.
The goal is to make sure every chorus is represented on the 2001 video -- I
know that you'll want to be sure that your chorus/quartet is included.
I need to receive all photos either by snail mail, or preferably by e-mail
attachment (.JPG file, please) NO LATER THAN JANUARY 18. On all photos,
please identify those pictured, and on photos sent via snail mail, be sure
your name is on the photos -- I will return them.
I'm looking forward to working on this fun project! Hope you all have plans
to attend the Brunch on Sunday morning after contest. If not, it's not too
late to sign up!
Thanks,
Debbie Curtis

BREAKING NEWS!
----------------------------------------------------------
Please distribute this e-mail to your chorus.
----------------------------------------------------------
As you may already know, our 2002 International Quartet champions, FANATIX,
will be mic testing before the Friday night quartet contest, singing on the
Show of Champions, and coming to a Hospitality Room near you on Saturday
night.
And now they've added one more event for Contest Weekend ... singing at the
Brunch on Sunday morning. These talented, funny women -- especially 5'12"
(!) Darcy who says she looks like the Statue of Liberty in her crown -- will
also add their own brand of humor to the "serious business" of installing the
new Regional Management Team.
If you haven't signed up for the Sunday Brunch, you still may have time.
Contact your chorus registration person and see if you can still add your
name to your chorus list. If it's too late because it's ready to send in,
you can probably buy tickets at the door in March -- but only if we're not
already full (we were sold-out last year).
$14 is a pretty good price for outstanding singing, good food, the 2 new
regional videos, awards, and mingling with friends -- and your opportunity to
push the Regional Management Team around. We'll be serving coffee and tea
again this year.... have your tips ready!
The Brunch is a great way to end a fun weekend together -- don't miss it!
Debbie

Oops -- brunch
Oops, Jan Sloan reminded me that the Brunch is $15 (not $14 as I said in my
previous message). It is correct on your chorus registration form.
Sorry for the confusion --
Debbie
