It's the Most Wonderful (Holiday Chorus) Time of the Year...

Hello my friends,?I was thinking... and I wanted to just share my thoughts and encourage all of us! ?

It certainly is time to be putting into action plans and marketing for your Holiday Chorus! ?This program for years continues to be one of the best possible Membership Drives and a great way to get your name out into your community! ? With so many singers all around that long for a place to make harmony and belong... especially during this dreadful time of isolation - ?I wanted to encourage all of us to dig in and give as much as we can in the way of time and energy as we FOCUS on growing our choruses ~ and in turn our Mighty Sequoia Pacifica Region 11!?

I would luv to hear your plans for what makes your Holiday Chorus Program unique! ?I know we all have much to share with one another and when we link arms together to help one another, we can all reach our goals. ?This is why we are in Regions ~ to help one another.

I'll share that AHH! is hosting our Holiday Chorus again this year! ?One new twist this year is including a local women's group and we have scheduled a performance at their holiday meeting!! ? I have seen Carpe Diem is hosting a Holiday Chorus as well - I am just SURE there are MANY of us that already have plans in the works!! ?and if you haven't jumped to make plans yet? ?There's still time! ?Simple or elaborate ~ just Don't miss out on this once-a-year golden Membership growth opportunity. ?

We all need to focus on Growing our choruses - this is being acted on Worldwide! ?Most choruses have suffered major losses in singers over the past 3 long years ~ our beloved region has dropped to around 400 singers. :-( ?This just breaks my heart and also makes me wonder if we will not be combined with another region if we don't grow our numbers back (and BEYOND!). ? Our RMT has been working tirelessly to manage and protect our financial picture as we believe these 2 areas weigh heavily on the choice to Combine regions; ?Finances & Membership Numbers. ? I for one, do NOT want to see us loose our very special, very unique, Region. ?There are so many advantages, and some challenges... but it's our PEOPLE that make us so unique. ?

So I urge you, don't pass up this Holiday Season as a prosperous time to do some recruiting!! ?Holiday Music arranged in 4-part BBShop is something that is SO beautiful and just goes deep into the bones... you know it! ?We must find a way to TELL EVERYONE!! ?Don't just be "the best kept secret"... ?share!! ?and even as we emerge, there are so many Singers seeking... help them find you! ??

I'll start by throwing out this crazy idea we are trying out!? ?Remember: You must step outside your comfort zone!!! ?That's where all the GROWTH is!?

It's not always easy to start a conversation about your chorus with people you don't know... ?so how can we do more of that? ? Years ago, G Hayden, the Membership Guru told us to fold up some printed music and leave it hanging out of our purses for all to see... ?the MUSICAL will see it! ? (BAMM)

??

I pledged to wear one of our Chorus Retreat Tees or a Singing Tee at least once a week - usually on Rehearsal Day! ?This often gets a look or three - but it doesn't always "start a conversation"... so we are testing some t-shirts and tote bags that will hopefully open up some convos!! ?It's CRAZY! ?and really OUT THERE!... BUT! ?if it starts a conversation with a handful of people - it will have been worth it! ?Then all I have to do is share my Passion!

I'm guessing I may hear some sarcastic... ?"I dunno - uh, where were YOU?"? from around me -- but if they open that door just a crack, you can bet I'm ready to walk right thru it! ?With our Brochures/flyers in my purse ready to go! ?AND I'm excited and will make sure my vibrations are high and my passion for what we do shines like a beacon! ?

Every One ~ Bring ONE!? ?If you're 20 - you could be 40! ?If you're 30 - you could be 60!? <---- ?that's all we need to get the ball rolling! Let's get some MOMENTUM! ?

Newton's first law of motion teaches us that “An object at rest stays at rest and?an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.”

Of course, I wouldn't be much of a Director if I didn't remind us all (myself included!) that Musical Excellence is one of our first and most appealing Growth Tools! ?;-) ? because my friends, we can't sell garbage or snake oil... they'll see right thru that! ?Over the 44 years I've been making harmony, our HQ has run numerous studies and they always come to the same conclusion; We come for the Music, but we stay for the friendships. ?I say we work to cover both of those bases!, but we need the best possible MUSIC to get their attention!! - so Sing Well! and show your PASSION!! ?There's nothing quite that magical and Magnetic!!

My friends... lets focus everything we've got on building our choruses and our amazing Sequoia Pacifica Region 11... time to circle the wagons and help one another to GROW and to be as HEALTHY and HAPPY as we can while we Harmonize our little corner of The World!! ? :-)?

The 2022 International Convention in Phoenix, AZ is almost upon us!? This year, our Region is thrilled & proud to be sending three?contestants to international competition: ?

- Regional champion quartet SwingTime

- International wildcard quartet Gotta Sing!

- Regional champion chorus Santa Monica Chorus

As is our custom, we will be celebrating our contestants at the "Regional Rah-Rah," which will be held during Santa Monica's open rehearsal:

Wednesday, September 14 at 10:00 AM, in the Convention Center Rm. 132.

If you'll be at the convention, please join us to shower our competitors with extra love and encouragement to bring onstage with them.? And feel free to bring your friends!

PLEASE NOTE:? we love y'all and want to keep everyone safe -- so we ask that everyone attending the rally & open rehearsal wear a mask.? Santa Monica Chorus will be masked at all times while rehearsing.

Ignite the What? . . . Demystifying "Ignite the Sound"

Dear Region 11:

?

It seems that lots of us have questions and/or confusion about Sweet Adelines International’s “Ignite the Sound” program, which was announced earlier this year.? Here are the answers to some common questions:

?
1. What is “Ignite the Sound”?

Ignite the Sound is a program and contest whose intention is to provide all Sweet Adelines (SA) regions and chapters with incentive and supportive resources to increase membership growth, aid in membership retention, and encourage the formation of quartets.? Ultimately, the program is about building back our membership after attrition during the pandemic and making us stronger than ever!

?

2.? 2. How does?the contest work?

The worldwide contest runs from June 6, 2022 through April 30, 2023.? It is in two parts:? one contest among the regions, and one among the chapters (divided into categories according to chapter size at the beginning of the contest).?

?

The regional contest will award:

To the SA region that achieves the highest percentage net growth of primary members by the end of the contest:?
- $5,000, and
- recognition at the 2023 international convention.?
To the SA region that adds the highest percentage net growth of quartets:
- $1,000
- a group coaching session facilitated by an international champion quartet; and
- recognition in The Pitch Pipe.

The?chapter contest will award to the SA chapter in each of the Small, Mid-Size and Large Chorus categories that achieves the highest percentage net growth of primary members overall:?

$3,000
a virtual coaching session; and
recognition in the Pitch Pipe.?

Note:? for this contest, the “small” “medium” and “large” chorus designations are measured differently than they are for our singing competitions.? For the purposes of Ignite the Sound only, Small choruses are 1-21 members, Medium are 22-34 members, and Large are 35+ members.

?

For more information, the contest rules are posted in the Members Only portion of the SA website, , and I have attached a copy of the rules to this message for your convenience.

3.? 3.?How are the results being tracked?

All members of SA must be included in the international membership database when we join. SA is using that database to measure membership and growth.? The first “baseline” measurement was taken on June 5, 2022.? They will take the final measurement on April 30, 2023.? In order to be counted, each member needs to be included in the database as a "primary" member of the chapter/region (dual members are counted only toward their primary chapter/region), and deemed in good standing.? It is the responsibility of each chapter to make sure that their roster is complete and accurate on the measurement dates, so Membership leaders, let’s be extra sure that we’re updating our rosters promptly!

?

4.? 4.?Is it too late to start participating?

Not at all!? There are 7 full months left in the contest.? That’s plenty of time to engage in marketing, plan events, fill your risers and register those quartets!? SA has provided lots of great resources to assist us all with these activities.? You can find them after logging into the SA website.

?
BONUS: but wait. . . there’s MORE!? There is also a “Micro-Contest” you can easily organize! To enter, host a costumed watch party for the International Convention, take a group selfie with your screen showing the webcast visible in the picture, and email it to member@... by Tuesday, September 20 at 4:30 pm Central Time. The top 5 photos will be shared by SA for voting, and the winning photo gets $1,000!

Hello, Region 11!

Yes, I know – we haven’t even had our 2022 International Convention and Competition in Phoenix yet!

However, Verdugo has already started our planning for representing Region 11 at the 2023 International Convention and Competition in Louisville, KY (October 30^th through November 4^th, 2023).? We’ve received our first information packet from SAI HQ, which provides preliminary information about Early Registration, which will open in 2022 at the International Convention and Competition in Phoenix, AZ (September 12-17, 2022).?

As of this date, SAI HQ advises the price for AETs/registration for Louisville has not yet been published. ?However, for planning purposes, the AET/Registration pricing for Phoenix is:?

Early Bird – Member ($225); Non-member ($250); Youth ($175)
Regular – Member ($275); Non-member ($300); Youth ($200)

If you plan to attend the 2023 International Convention and Competition in Louisville, KY and would like to sit with Verdugo in our seating block, please contact Sue Peacock (Registration Chair) at suesingsbass2@....??

SwingTime is thrilled to have won the regional competition again this year and given the opportunity to representing our regional at the international level. As many of you know, going to internationals is no easy feat. It’s a lot of hard work, dedication, and, of course, money.?

We are hosting a fundraising dinner again this year,?on?Sunday, August 7 at 3:30 pm, and we hope you will join us to celebrate! This year internationals will be held in Phoenix AZ so the incredible chef Bobby will be creating a Southwest TexMex menu.?

This last weekend's Summer Sizzler LIVE event was a smash! Thanks go out to all the members of the Seminars Committee, to Golden Sands (our Assisting Chorus), and to everyone who attended and performed and played along with us.?

Hello Fabulous Region 11!

?

Sadly, The New Fangled Four quartet will not be appearing on the Saturday night Winners’ Circle Show, Jukebox Saturday Night.? Their tenor has COVID!? But, the show must go on!

?

Not to worry because we have lots of great quartets and choruses lined up for the show plus fun audience participation with our emcee Linda Borg. ??All the proceeds go toward our regional quartets. ?Make sure you dress up in your best 50’s costume!? There will be opportunity drawings abounding and then the afterglow, hosted by the fabulous duo of Lee Hayes and Mary Ashford!!? At the afterglow, you will have a chance to step into a champion quartet and sing a song with them for only $5.

?

Tickets for the show will be available at the seminar registration table all weekend until show time at 8pm Saturday night!

This is a quick note to remind each of you of the Summer Sizzler COVID-19 protocols that have been put in place for the time we are together.
