Hello, Region 11!
Region 11 is offering a Trial Scoring opportunity at the 2002 Summer
Regional Seminar during the Double Quartet Contest on Friday, August 9
in Bakersfield. This is an excellent educational
opportunity for singers of all levels of expertise to learn more about
our craft.
Because, really, we pour over those score sheets when they come back
from contest. But do we really understand the rules, the scoring,
what's important and what the judges are looking for? Now's a great
time to learn more!
Anyone and everyone in your chorus is encouraged to pick a category,
pick up a pencil, and learn what judging is all about. All you need to
do is respond via e-mail indicating your interest. Be sure to include
your name, chorus name, address, and the category — Music, Expression,
Sound or Showmanship — that you'd be interested in judging.
A pre-contest briefing will be held to give out paperwork and go over
each category and the use of scoresheets. Post-contest meetings with
individual judges will be held to answer questions and evaluate the
scoring work on an individual basis.
The judges you'll be working with (after the contest) are: Dot Calvin
in the category of Music, Linda Taylor in the category of Sound, Bitsy
Gordy Kirkpatrick in the category of Expression and Dede Nibler in the
category of Showmanship.
Attendance is limited to the first 17 applicants, so be sure to sign up
today! All participants will receive notification (from me) prior to
competition weekend of their judging category and the schedule for the
pre-contest briefing.
This is a fun class, a great way to see and hear the contest, and an
opportunity to take a walk in a judge's "shoes." I look forward to
seeing you in Bakersfield!
In harmony,
Kathy Laderman
