Listen to a repeater that you think is close and you want to use. It will ID itself with a? morse code signal every so often. Mostly on the hour & half hour.
Once you hear that wait until all is clear, no talking.? Then just for a second press the Tx button. IF you are contacting the repeater you will hear a quick tone after you release the button. And on our radios the small green LED will be light showing you are receiving.

Yes, I can receive?fine, but I have not gotten any replies?to calls I have made. Not sure to tell if it's transmitting at all, or if im just being ignored because I don't know anyone on frequency.

Ron,
By the way, the repeater that works best for me is the Ocotillo one (449.325 MHz PL 100). There are 2 nets that we have checked into. One every Wednesday at 7 PM local time & one on Saturday at 8 PM.

Yes, I used CHIRP along with downloads from repeaterbook to program the phone. IT does show the frequency shift and PL tones as being programmed, but it still not able to raise any contacts.

Have you tried the "chirp" program?
I downloaded a copy to my laptop, connected the USB cable and got ALL the memory channels filled. The Baofeng is hard to hand load.
Hi all, im a newbie and just got my Tech license about 2 weeks ago. I got a Baofeng UV-5R radio off Amazon, and have tried programming in the local repeaters, but while I can receive, I have not been able to get any reply to my attempts at broadcasting. I assume I don't have it setup correctly, and wondering if it's possible to hook-up with someone in the Gilbert area who can let me know what im doing wrong. Thanks, Ron, KJ7MSB
