Direct to plate

Hi all
?
Just joined the group. I am a photographer and a printmaker and recently started working on photogravure. Had my plates made for me up till now but I have now an Epson P900.
I have downloaded and installed the QTR and looking forward to making some tests. Does anyone know what the media setting should be for a photogravure plate?
?
Thank you for any assistance/advice you might have.

Hi Joe,

You need to install the epson media installer. Copy the Fine Art Matte and change it to these settings.

Thanks Greg! Much appreciated. Can you please tell me the value of the platen gap and the drying time per pass as they are not that clear on the screen shot.

Thanks again. Will download the media installer.

Platen Gap is 4.5 and drying time is .5 You want the platen gap as wide as possible to avoid head strikes.

OK sorted Greg. Thanks again! One last?question if you don't mind. Is there a need for a carrier sheet for the plate? I came across this somewhere.

thanks

Yes I use a carrier sheet. a 2ply board and a thick sheet of paper underneath to hold plate. ?Also make sure you go into the printer and turn off "Detect Paper Meandering” and also every time before you run a plate through turn off and turn on Auto Horizontal center. Sometimes it works, sometimes it will print on the left hand side ruining a plate.?

Thank you so much Greg. Will see what I can manufacture. Looks like it is not possible to send in the plate on its own? Apologies if this sounds basic but I am totally new to using QTR and DTP processes. I installed Epson Media Installer and created a paper (plate) profile as you instructed. So do I print through the Epson dialog? There are no paper choice options in the QTR dialog. Am I right?

thanks again

You can run a plate directly if it is big enough (11x14) and no you have to switch inks by choosing the paper type in the epson media installer.

Ah got you. Please have a look at the attached screenshot. I created a plate profile using the media installer. It is listed as a custom paper in the list. So I guess this is the way to go and not through QTR.

You set the paper type on the printer itself. That is just the size of the paper.

Hi all
?
As already indicated my main interest is DTP photopolymer printing on my Epson P900. I have purchased and installed the K3 QuadTone Profiler and the Print Tool, following Richard Boutwell's video on the installation and printing process. (Thank you Dave Najewics!)
?
When I look at the DTP starter curve for the P900 this is grayed out and only Gravure Positive is available. It is available for P600-P800. Is this normal?
?
Another issue is that when I saved a curve to the QuadP900-QTP folder, the Print Tool is not recognising it. It is not listed in the dropdown menu for the Curves of the QuadP900-QTP.
?
Any help/guidance would be appreciated as I'm new to this.?
?
Joe
