Hi Joe,
?
I am joining this thread because I am having the same issue. I have my platen gap set to 4.5 and my dry time set to .5 through the epson media installer as others suggest, but still with no improvement. I have a P700, but I am printing in the same fashion as you, print tool with QTR DTP curve. I am using toyobo plates, I think it must be something in relation to the Surecolor printers and not the plate. Any help on this would be awesome!
?
|
Berel, thanks but I am not using the front feed tray. I am printing negatives using Pictorico and the sheet feed.
|
Hi Stig, thanks for your feedback.
?
There is another line further down which seems to have light pizza marks. I have circled the lines in red.? I am using a box of plates that was
given to me by a colleague who stopped working on the process due to ill health. They seem to be Australian. Photos attached.
?
I'm trying to source plates from Europe so if you have any suggestions, please do let me know.
?
best

Hi Joe - which kind of polymerplates are you using (Brand?)? If you only have one (Thats what I can see from your photo) broad soft white stripe, it is probably not pizza wheeling.
all the best

Hi all. Maybe you can shed some light on this. I have just installed an Epson P900 to print on photo paper and also to produce my own DTP photogravures. Up till now I had my plates made for me in Spain.? I installed Print Tool, the Quadtone K3 Profiler and the QTR. As someone previously suggested in the group, I created a new media file based on the Epson matt paper, and edited the paper thickness and platen gap accordingly.? When I print through Print Tool and QTR Printer, the new media option I created is not available. It is only available in the Epson Print tool.
?
So I selected A4 in the Print Tool using the Quad 900 QTP and selected the appropriate DTP curve (saved from the K3 profiler). I also selected Front Feed Poster Board. When I print, I am getting pizza line marks on the plate. (Photo and screenshots of the process attached).? When I tried using the Epson Print tool (instead of Print Tool) with the saved media file as media setting, I did not get the line marks but the inking looks a bit dense. I'm really at a loss. Am I missing something? Maybe the screenshots can help. I am not using a carrier but feeding the A4 plate directly into the printer.
?
Is anyone going through the Epson Print dialog instead of Print Tool etc to print his plates? Would be great to know what the settings are?
?
I would be grateful for any guidance anyone can provide. Unfortunately there are no workshops on the topic in Malta.?
?
Thank you so much

I had the same problem last week printing multiple DTP plates using a carrier - 3880, QTR,Print Tool,? - I resolved? it? by? closing? the? front? feed tray after each print, and re-opening it when prompted? to after clicking on print.? I have absolutely no idea why this works? - but it does .? Worth a try before ant more drastic solutions.

This morning I deleted and reinstalled QTR and Print Tool and tried printing again with Print Tool with the same result, the film (and paper) feed and then get ejected. ?Then I tried printing through Photoshop using QTR and It did the same thing. I finally tried printing through Photoshop without QTR and it worked fine. So, my conclusion at this point is that it is not a printer issue, but a QTR issue.?
?
I have never had an issue like this before and suspect it is a compatibility issue between QTR and Mac OS14. Thoughts??
|
Print Tool doesn't save last settings on P800
Print Tool doesn't save the last setting or load a custom setting on the Quad P800UC. It does work on all my Piezo printers.
|
Hi Clay, I have had it happen printing DTP but never printing negatives using Pictorico. I did a nozzle check as always and no issue there. ?It happens with plain paper as well.
|
Allan, thanks. ? I do a nozzle check before every print session. No problem there.?
|
When my P900 needs a nozzle check or head clean, the only way it tells me is by running the sheet through the printer without printing anything.

When that happens to me when printing a DTP plate, it typically is resolved by making a new carrier. I am surprised that the same thing happened when you print on a different paper. The next thing I would try is printing a nozzle check on some copier paper to make sure it it isn¡¯t a nozzle issue.?

Hi all
?
As already indicated my main interest is DTP photopolymer printing on my Epson P900. I have purchased and installed the K3 QuadTone Profiler and the Print Tool, following Richard Boutwell's video on the installation and printing process. (Thank you Dave Najewics!)
?
When I look at the DTP starter curve for the P900 this is grayed out and only Gravure Positive is available. It is available for P600-P800. Is this normal?
?
Another issue is that when I saved a curve to the QuadP900-QTP folder, the Print Tool is not recognising it. It is not listed in the dropdown menu for the Curves of the QuadP900-QTP.
?
Any help/guidance would be appreciated as I'm new to this.?

Joe,
Well not much more I can say at this point, If you have loaded the media file into the printer with the epson software ( you should be able to see it in the printer menu set up), and can't see it in QTR I am stumped. Perhaps, reload QTR on your system.....it can be very fussy about adding qtr profiles and requires rebooting .?
Also you may want to consider these two sources:? and?
I am sure you will figure?this out .... it is a great technique once you get all of the wrinkles smoothed out. Here is one of mine, a chine colle intaglio print.

Thank you Dave. So kind. My passion. And printmaking was always something I aspired to since art school and college. I was sourcing my ready made plates from Spain but now dying to produce my own.??You can see some photogravure samples on my FB wall and Instagram account.
I created a media profile as you indicated. My confusion is where do I select this profile. In QTR I see exactly what your screen shot shows. The paper feed options but the profile I created can only be seen in the Epson print dialog drop down list. So I¡¯m getting lost in the process. Do I select the profile first in Epson and then switch to QTR and select the poster board option? And then print??
I¡¯m grateful for your patience and assistance and apologies for taking up your time.?

Joe,
I assume the media file you created, includes the paper thickness, platten gap and? a matte icc profile were included. Attached is a copy of the media file the file I am using? When I loaded this media file into the printer, it becomes an?option in the printer menu when the front feed is selected on the printer. it shows- fine art(thick), poster board, disc tray and "no eject".? BTW you have taken some beautiful?photographs, took a quick?look at your webpage....
Thanks Dave. I did create a plate profile using the media installer and adjusted the platen gap accordingly?but I can only see this profile in the Epson printer dialog and not in the QTR dialog. Joe,
I had problems getting the P900 to recognize the "sled" that I was using for the plates. I took clay harmon's workshop on dpt and he showed us the use of a sled - using two pieces of 2X matte board with the top piece being a frame to hold the plate. I also used a small tab of two sided tape in the corners to keep the plate secured?in the sled.
?Here is what I did - the carrier I used was two layers of 2X matte board - with a total thickness of 1.5mm. I created a custom epson .emy file for my DTP set-up based on the epson matte board .emy file ( you will have to down load this from the epson site). I modified the thickness parameter to 1.5mm and set the platen gap to 2.1mm ( I believe these are the largest values allowed). I also changed the .icc profile to a matte paper profile to insure the use of MK ink. After I made these changes and installed the .emy file in my printer, I was able to successfully load and print several plates... but it can be kind of "finicky" - also make sure all of the parameters on the printer set-up match the information in the print tool or QTR settings. Good Luck" ?A measurement of the sled would be useful, there seems to be a somewhat wide range of thicknesses of 2x matte board.? Apparently there are other issues that can cause the media to not be recognized -including stray marks on the sled, I am not an expert on any of this, but this custom . emy worked for me. Not sure if this is the best solution to this issue but it has worked for me.?

Thank you for this information Dave. I appreciate?IT. I have installed the QTR software but still getting around it as I¡¯m totally new to this. Not sure how to select a media type. It is not possible in the QTR dialog. So do you select it before in the Photoshop print dialog?
Apologies if this sounds basic but I'm new to this system.
thanks

Joe,
I had problems getting the P900 to recognize the "sled" that I was using for the plates.

I have just started doing some DTP photogravures on an Epson P900. Any idea what the media setting (paper) should be on the QTR?

Thanks Dave. I did create a plate profile using the media installer and adjusted the platen gap accordingly?but I can only see this profile in the Epson printer dialog and not in the QTR dialog. I will have a look at the link you supplied. Thanks for all your help and apologies for all my queries but trying to get my head around this.
