enhanced matte cool curve

Am I the only one who thinks that the cool curve for enhanced matte is not cold enough?

Have been happily printing with the Epson 4000 driver, not icc, and getting very cold
blacks, with no metamerism that I see and of course no color cast (by public acclaim).

Maybe I am just used to the coldness, but I like the stark effect.

The sliders between curves in QTR are neat though.

Carl has suggested that I edit the cool curve so I will be trying that, though I know almost
nothing about it.

I would characterize the cool curve as neutral to very slightly warm.

So I am curious what you all think

I got news for you, I have the NoK curve and it doesn't work, or at
least I can't get it to work, for this application.
When I tried printing using the QTR on lustre paper using the NoK
curve, images come out very faint and grey. I used the Photo black
and and then the Matte Black ink the results were the same.

Thanks, Will. When I did the step wedges on the luster papers with
pk, I noticed that they were quite warm, but thought my eyes were
playing tricks on me.

Sorry about the info. A while back I needed to change from a CMYK special
file to an RGB one. The new file inkseparation.psd is RGB and works exactly
like the old one did.

Which Curve Blend Do I Choose?

I'm doing a series of 'step wedges'tonight using the QTR and a 2200
printer. I've done Epson enhanced matte and about to try Epson Premium
Luster.

What curves blend do I choose in the QTRgui?

I'm using the the Gray Photo wedge and selected Premium Luster in the
media menu

The QuadToneRip 2.0 Calibration instructions tell us to use "inkpatern.psd" , a CYMK file,
as our calibration file yet I cannot find it in either the MacOsX or WinXP versions. The
closest file is "Inkseparation.psd", but it is 8bit RGB. I open it without any color
management (leave as is) but it is still RGB.

Where can I find "inkpattern.psd?

I find that the shadows in QTR using EEM neutral, are quite blue and
detract from the neutral tone of the other areas. In examining the
curve, I see the toner is 100% density and the ink limit is 45. I
haven't made any changes in the print curve till I can get access to a
densitometer, but does anyone have any help they can give me to remove
this blue shadow tint till then?

Qimage gives you all the page layout controls you could ever want. It also does smart sharpening for printer output. You can do all these things in Photoshop, but since you are using Qimage for color, I would guess you, like me, find page management easier on Qimage.

I also use Qimage, it’s a great product – but now I only use it for colour prints and use QTR for b&w. Why bother going via Qimage for b&w, especially if the image has already been processed in Photoshop? The only reason I can think of is to allow multiple photos to be laid out first.

Bernie--I like it somewhat better than sharpening in PS with USM.? If you do a lot of other twists to sharpening or use something like PKS--the sharpening may better for some images.? As far as interpolation--I really haven't done a comparison (though I probably should).? Qimage does a bang up job of it though--but PSCS bicubic with smoother or sharper is very very good.

The reason I considered it is because I jump through hoops to sharpen with PKS in PS (though I really like the plugin--but it will only work in RGB).? Qimage does a really good interpolation of my original digital files--and also a very good job with its 'smart sharpening'--which means I don't have to fiddle around about sharpening (which I always do as the last step after resizing).? I imagine I will go back and forth between the 2 depending upon my mood and the image (PKS allows me to be very selective about my sharpening and some times that's really needed).

I agree with you LOL.? I did the same--opened the file saved from Qimage (with the profile) and used smart sharpening as usual.? It worked out great.?

I love QTR---its solved my one big disappointment with printing b/w with the 2200--the metamerism problem.? And--its so easy.

That's how I print, and I believe most others do, also. When I print
to file in Qimage, I set the printer ICC to QTR-RGB Gray Matte and
leave Smart Sharpening at the default. Then I open the tiff with QTR.
Works great. Some folks just set QTR to monitor a folder and let it
print automatically when the tiff is saved in Qimage. The
collaboration between Roy, Stephen, and Mike was wonderful and made
for a simple workflow.

I was thrilled when QTR was first released for Windows. Then when
Stephen created QTRGui, it was so much better. And now, with Mike's
input, and further improvements in QTR and the GUI, it's a real
pleasure to work with. Metemerism-free prints and I can easily change
the look from selenium-toned to warm and everything in between. What
fun!!

graphs are working fine. I must have downloaded the wrong version

actually you should read the instructions that came with the Beta9 version (2.1 beta 9 I
think)

Just don't take them too literally cuz the install and some of the print options have
changed. Rather look for hints.

But unless you are using the new grayscale profiles, the normal method for qtr is to use
"same as source" in the PS print with preview window where you would ordinarily put a
paper profile for color printing. And check black point and Roy says perceptual though I'm
testing with relative colormetric at the moment. He also says to print from a grayscale
mode file but my in my initial testing RGB works too (this may change as I am just getting
started)
