On an A4 sheet I printed squares placed such that they should
touch. They should neither overlap not be separated. QTR does what
it should if the placement is given in inches. But it is not
capable to place images using mm. Perhaps known trivial bug.

Convert .quad file to .qidf file?
Hi, is there a way (utility) to recreate a .qidf file from the .quad file? Thanks.

Hello,
I am new to this forum. I converted my R2880 into a black-only
printer using the inks according to Paul's GCVT formulation. After
two head cleans I made the first test print of Keith Cooper's jpg
test image using QTR v2.7.0.0 (win10) on Hahne PR308 using the
quad GCVT-Pa325-warm-carb.quad. I used an A4 sheet in portrait
orientation (only to print in the upper half of the sheet) and
selected the scale "To fit". The small preview in QTR seemed o.k.
(width fits), but the width of the print was too narrow (about
170mm instead of about 200mm).
Since the print had some residual tint (only 2 head cleanings
after replacing the OEM carts), I wanted to quantify this effect.
Therefore, I used only one color channel out of C, LC, M, LM of
the above quad and printed a square (30x30mm, 2880ppi,
Lab=(40,0,0)). This time I used in QTR the scale "100%" (as
recommended earlier on this forum), the resolution 2880, and
specified the placement (top left corner of the printed square)
such to align the four patches in a row. The tint was obvious and
consistent. After another (3rd head clean) the tint was almost
gone ('second row').
However, the positions of the squares scattered in a (for me)
unpredictable way. In the attached image the tick marks indicate
the targeted vertical and horizontal positions of the upper left
corner of each square.
What am I doing wrong?
Best,
Hendrik

thanks for the correction and confirmation. Yes, I got a VLM cart from a 7890 and will use to fill for a 7880,

K3 no but K3 Vivid from the x880 onwards yes.

In the print dialog box of print tool select “Front-No Eject Roller”
On the printer - open the front feeder tray, select Front- No Eject Roller and follow the directions

thanks Dave Just curious. Did you not have any luck using the front feeder to eliminate pizza wheels on the 900? Epson included a special setting to disengage the pizza wheels.? On Jan 8, 2025, at 8:40?PM, Christina Z. Anderson via <christinazanderson=[email protected]> wrote:

Roy, You are a Godsend. It worked.
But the command for some reason had to be InstallP5300=P900.command. For some reason this printer only shows as a P5300. Then I cut and pasted all the quads into the P5300 file folder,
too, and they showed up fine. The P 5370 is SO sensitive. You have to go through a lot of machinations to make it recognize sheet feed and not cassette or manual. AND position the OHP perfectly so the driver head sees
it. Also to push the OHP quite far down in place, do all the selections of paper type, size, etc. in the
printer control panel itself, before pressing Print in Print Tool. Otherwise, errors abound. I also had the usual problem of the top inch of the negative print low density so I assume a workaround is no more than 9 inch image, image 1 inch away from edge, or go so far as to cut
and paste part of the image for an inch at the leading edge as some have done (that will be beyond students). I will be making step by steps to laminate so students will not run into the myriad picky issues this printer displays, but if we can print negs with no pizza wheels I have died and gone
to heaven. We’ve kept the two P900s as backup in the lab for busy images that pizza wheels will get lost in, and just have the one P5370. I mean, it’s a BEAST in cost and size, really not a consumer model by any means. ? Question is I wonder if it really makes a dif using 1440 super, or 2880, or 2880 super? I’m trying 1440 super to see if it’s adequate with some negs I printed. ? I also will report back if the P900 profiles are perfectly fine or need major tweaking. So far the negatives I’ve printed for new cyanotype and palladium
look as I would expect but that doesn’t prove anything until I print prints. ? Chris ?
Just rename script to InstallP5370=P900.command
This will find P5370 printer but use P900 driver.?

We’ve switched to the Epson P5370 at work due to the P900s having such severe pizza wheel issues as to make both printers unusable for all but the busiest of images..
No luck being able to install QTR for the P5370. Op sys attached. Error message attached. I’ve named it P5000, P5300 series, P5370, none work. I’ve re-installed QTR 3x. I’ve turned on and off printer. I’ve made sure all permissions are read/write on the folders from Library to quadtone to quads. Any ideas? Someone on this list had no problem using P900 profiles on this printer, either, and I do notice the inks are the same except VLM is LM and VM is M…hope that is not an issue. Chris ?

Re: P6000 Digital Negative via QTR with OEM inkset
7800 and 9800 are still very useful. I have a 7800 and 7880. Picked up each for dirt cheap and cleaned the capping stations, the wipers, the printhead (with piezo vapours). The 7800 is running a Karbon-8 set. As long as you keep it clean it should run for years. You could even source some on Facebook marketplace and craigslist and harvest the parts eg: air pump, motherboards, cables, tubes etc.. and use that to maintain a working machine.

P6000 Digital Negative via QTR with OEM inkset
Hello All,? I have taken a very long break from making digital negatives for gum over Pl/Pd. I've decided to get back to it.? I was using a 9800 with Cone K7 inks. The inks are now way too old, and the printer is being maintenance and flushed as we speak.?
A couple of years back I acquired a 7800 with OEM inks.? The printer is currently cleared and up and running with oem inks to experiment with profiling.?
?
I understand I have limited time with these older printers, so I am thinking about getting a used P6000.? Questions for P6000 users:
1.? Does the printer handle transparency well?
2. Are you happy with the OEM ink set for negatives?
3. Reliability?
4. I can easily tear apart a 78**/98**, is the P6000 cap/flush/blade easily accessible without being a mechanical engineer scholar??
FYI... not interested in positive printing.?
Any information would be helpful.?
Thanks for your alls' time and sharing your experiences.?

Glop (Gloss Optimizer) resource topic
1) STS Inks wj824 sales@... can make it on request. Gloss optimizer no longer shows up in inventory search.
?
2) Octoink has wj824 mpn in stock. Gloss optimizer for Epson r800, r1800, r1900?
?
3) Inkowl in the USA / Inkpot in Canada also have Gloss optimizer for Epson r800, r1800, r1900.?
I've checked with Inkowl and they said their gloss optimizer WEP-500HGL(different sizes) is also made from WJ824.
?
I encourage folks who have bought from any of the above to add to this thread and share your experiences of buying and using the product.

Re: Revisiting Carbon 6/7/8 in 2024
Thanks folks, looks like the stuff from Inkowl and Inkpot is the wj824 too. It's described as Epson compatible gloss optimizer for the same printers as the octoink.?

Re: Revisiting Carbon 6/7/8 in 2024
There was a temporary problem with the product pages of octoink,
recently. But they are online again and it seems wj824 is in
stock.

I made my own dilution base for a while,? but I stayed away from getting into glossy or semi glossy mixes.? I was afraid of making a mix that would clog inkjet heads.? So when I went to printing mostly on semi glossy papers, I stayed with STS dilution base.

I haven't heard back from Joe, so I'm waiting on a reply from the general sales team about glop = wj824. On the octoinks it looks like they're sold out.
Paul, did you ever have a formula to make my own glop?
