Re: GRAY_CURVE curve point pair format

Here is a handout that will help with QCDN, attached, or, at least, how I teach it. Richard may have updated his program since I created the handout. There are links in the PDF to lead to where you need to go, including Bill Schwab¡¯s videos. A number of people like Schwab, Harmon, Boutwell teach workshops in it (I don¡¯t).

Yes, Input/Output.

0% ink is no ink/clear film; 100% is full ink/black on the film. When no ink (0%) is printed in a negative it will print 100% ¡°black¡± in the print and when 100% ink is printed in a negative it will print paper white in a print (0%) (theoretically). This little visual might help you.

0% is no ink

100% in full ink

It always gets me, when I explain this, because it is SO backwards/literally and figuratively inverted.

Thanks for the info Christina. My partner and I are just getting started with salted paper printing and Quadtone digital negs. Your books on the topics have been invaluable!

?

So to confirm in regards to GRAY_CURVE:

  1. The format of each coordinate pair is INPUT;OUTPUT.
  2. Each value is an ink percentage (i.e. 0 is white and 100 is black)

Do I have that correct?

?

Thank-you for recommending QCDN. I am aware of its reputation and intend to give it a shot at some point. I recently purchased QuadToneProfiler-Pro for positive inkjet printing and found the software and workflow very challenging. Based on that experience, I've been a bit hesitate to jump into QCDN without first trying to gain a better understanding of how the Quadtone driver works.
