Linking Repeater to another repeater

Hi Colby,
I have no problem linking to another reflector, like REFxxx, but I tried linking to the Papa System repeater and repeater on the dstar list on my radio but was not able to link. Please advice.

开云体育

It's possible for repeater owners to lock down their repeaters for linking to and may want you to link to reflectors only.

The problem is likely the repeater is not in your host files. Repeaters generally are not, only reflectors. It could also be, as Will stated, that the repeater owner is disallowing users linking directly to it.

Hi Colby,

How do I add repeater on the host files? I was a member of the PAPA System and we were instructed and informed that after you link their repeater to the reflector or other repeater that you are responsible to unlink them, so I was thinking their system is open. I will ask them on the next meeting. Thank you.

Hi Will,

Thank you. I will try other repeaters. I just wanted to make that it is working.

Hi Colby,

I set my ID-51 to transmit to the repeater, the repeater is link to the XRF reflector and my hot spot will display that I am transmitting, but when I use my new mobile same set up, the repeater will response but it will not go thru the XRF link.? Please advice.

Make sure you’re using the correct CQCQCQ. In order to pass the reflector, you’ll have to either program the radio with a Your call of CQCQCQ, or go into the menu and select the Use Reflector CQCQCQ.

Personally, I would link the two repeaters to an XRF reflector. If you only wanted a reflector for linking, that would be easy enough to set up, then just link all systems to the same XRF reflector and module. Essentially, that would link the repeaters. I’ve never tested linking one repeater directly to another.

Keep in mind you could run one that isn’t open to the public either. ?Most reflector software has a whitelist or blacklist function, and I know for sure ours does, so you could open it up to only the repeaters you want to link into it. Wouldn’t take long to set up either. A good option would be a cheap OpenVZ or KVM vps with a static IP running just the reflector software. Tom has a version of xrfd that would fit your needs nicely. Then, the repeaters would only need to add it into their hostfiles.

Hi Colby,

How do I add repeater on the host files? I was a member of the PAPA System and we were instructed and informed that after you link their repeater to the reflector or other repeater that you are responsible to unlink them, so I was thinking their system is open. I will ask them on the next meeting. Thank you.

The problem is likely the repeater is not in your host files. Repeaters generally are not, only reflectors. It could also be, as Will stated, that the repeater owner is disallowing users linking directly to it.

It's possible for repeater owners to lock down their repeaters for linking to and may want you to link to reflectors only.

HI Colby,

I have mentioned to our group about the whitelist and blacklist function and understood the purpose of that function. I will look into the option you provided. Thank you.

Hi Colby,

You are right, and it is more efficient to do that. Thanks.

That would make sense.

In your case, especially if you plan on adding repeaters to the mix, an x-reflector would make the most sense, since you can link multiple repeaters to any module you want. Anything said over one crosses another.? We have our own version of an x-reflector that could be utilized as well.

HI Colby,

Thank you for the advice. I will relay the information to our group. I think the reason why our guy could not like the repeater to the XRF, is because their system is not updated with the XRF reflectors.

Just edit that file. Once the edits are done, do systemctl restart qnlink.

Personally, I would link the two repeaters to an XRF reflector. If you only wanted a reflector for linking, that would be easy enough to set up, then just link all systems to the same XRF reflector and module. Essentially, that would link the repeaters. I’ve never tested linking one repeater directly to another.

HI Colby,
Thank you. I found out the problem. Everytime I program the ID-4100, MY Callsign is being erase and that was the reason I could get into my hotspot and gateway.? How do I update the repeater's host file on the Qnetgateway. Our group is asking me if we could link to another repeater.

Make sure you’re using the correct CQCQCQ. In order to pass the reflector, you’ll have to either program the radio with a Your call of CQCQCQ, or go into the menu and select the Use Reflector CQCQCQ.
