I agree, if you have a new OS on a Pi Zero W and can see it on your home router, then that pretty much has to mean it installed your wpa_supplicant.conf file okay, so there must be a problem with ssh. I don't think it particularly matters, but when I create the /boot/ssh file, it's just an empty file. Be careful not to add some trailing white-space on the filename, and, of course, no filename extensions that sometimes windows can help but adding.
Unfortunately, you only get one shot at this, once your system does it's initial boot, you can't do the /boot/ssh trick again to enable ssh on a card that has already booted. As a postmortem, you can pop the card and see if the /boot/ssh file is still there, because if it is, then maybe you can look it over carefully to try to figure out what went wrong.
Since you can't get in from either your Windows putty app or your chromebook, I think you have to start over again.
One more thing, according to your original message, it seems like you making the card a desktop OS. You should use the "lite" (no-gui) OS. Then after you've done all you need to do with raspi-config, you'll need to "sudo apt install build-essential git" to install git, g++ and make because not all of these are on the "lite" OS.

The problem is not the network, it's SSH I do not have the adapters needed to hook a Keyboard and monitor to the Pi=zero and I've misplaced my Pi=2

values for YSFGateway.qn?
FOlks, I¡¯m tring to setup my YSFgateway.qn file so that i can build a multi-mode hotspot, and I have a couple of quetions: First, which id do I use in the id field: *** Code begins*** Id=1234567 ***COde ends*** Is this my DMR ID, which I have or the CCS7ID? Also, how do I setup the startup value to reflect that I want to starup on FCS310? So far my starup line loks like this: *** Code begins*** Startup=FCS31080 COde end*** The option, without the quotes: "book DG-ID for Reflector¡± Can you use that to book all the DGIDS 1-99, and then even if none are taken, so long as your on FCS310, you can move through the DGIDs that have groups on them, and it should work?
Thanks for thehelp, Justin

Re: Cannibalizing a pistar installation for Qnetgateway?
Yeah. The only reason I mentioned the hash version of the password was because I encountered a situation where the config would actually not work with the password in plain text. The hash version was required. Had nothing to do with security concerns.

I would say it's probably more effective to change the password of the pi user on you Raspberry Pi to a strong password. One with digits, upper and lowercase letters and one or two symbol characters. In fact, you should ALWAYS reset any default password from ANY distribution you intend on using on any computer behind your firewall.

Re: an accessible method of installing qnet gateway?
OK so I've finally gotten this all to work on my Pi-0. ?For some reason when I would edit the wpa_supplicant.conf file, and move it over to my SD card, the Pi-0 would not detect my wifi network. ?So after looking through numverous junk boxes, i found a Pi 3b+, connected it to ethernet, went through the raspiconfig, got the Pi localized, and wifi setup, put it back in to my Zumspot that I intend to use, and voila. I've Now gone ahead, and completed steps one, and two of the MMDVM.readme file. ?However in step 3 I can't find the MMDVMhost directory. ?I can find the .ini files for steps 4, and 5. ?My plan is to enable this for all three modes, d-star, YSF, and DMR. ?Any help, and suggested values I would appreciate. Thanks, Justin

Re: values for the ./qnconfig script?

They have default values, so you don't need to set them. You would only change the device path if you're ZUMspot isn't on the GPIO header.
Anything that shows <DEFAULT> typically does not have to be changed unless you want to change them to something else.
