QSI 683-WSG won't start (yellow blinking led)

Hi,

I have a QSI 683-WSG8 that I didn't used very much the last two years due to a new permanent setup. As I planned to build a new mobile setup, I decided to use it again. Every thing was working well the first time. But the second time (two days later), the camera emitted a bip on power on, followed by a sequence of yellow LED blinks. According the information I found this is related to a firmware update. But I haven't initiated any firmware update. So, could this be something else ?

I can see the camera in the Windows Device Manager, but I can't connect it.

Regards,

Julien

I've had some problems with my 683 that were related to a questionable USB cable. Or, actually, a USB cable running next to the power supply.? I never had a problem like that with my old 583 cameras.? I changed cables and the problem went away.

Julien,

You need to take note of the exact number of flashes for each colour.

I think you are reading that when performing a firmware update the yellow LED will flash.

hi,

Changing the cable doesn't solve the problem.

I tried to read the flash sequence, all in yellow : _ . _ . (short pause)? _ _ . _

Julien,

It doesn’t really match the manual, an error is indicated by one or two red flashes followed by yellow flash(es).

I have copied this from somewhere previously....for my QSI camera:

QSI Camera Beep Codes;

?

Here is the list of beep codes:

Red Amber Description

1 1 Camera over temperature limit
1 2 Camera under temperature limit
1 3 Camera under voltage limit
1 4 Camera over voltage limit
1 5 Filter wheel error or missing
1 6 Shutter disc error or missing

Fatal Errors:

Red Amber Description
2 1 Host descriptor error
2 2 Host command error
2 3 USB buffer overrun
2 4 USB no acknowledgement
2 9 Watchdog timeout

?

I have some additional codes. Wondering if the last one applies (no red involved):

Special codes:
Solid amber (at power up): Camera performing the power on self test.
Green flashing: Power on complete, waiting for USB cable connection.
Solid green: Camera OK, USB cable connected to host (but not necessarily a software open connection).
Flashing red: Camera is exposing an image.
Solid amber (after an exposure): Camera is transferring data to the host.
Amber with the flash pattern-- long-short-long-short, pause, long-long-short-long (Morse code 'CQ'):
The camera is in the boot-loader mode, either due to a connection by the QSI Updater application, or due to a power-on firmware check-sum error.

Hi Julien

I had a problem similar to this several years ago with a QSI 516 WSG camera - after a number of attempts I discovered a loose filter that was causing a jam in the filter tray and probably causing?a current?overload.? Cleared the filter and the camera has since worked without out issue.? Long shot but maybe worth checking.

Yes, it's the last one. Given your description this doesn't sound good.

Hi,

I will check

Here’s an online manual for the 500-600 series cameras. ?Pages 26-28 have various LED blink error codes.

I have seen this documentation. But none of the documented error code match the LED sequence I see.

Julien

It's not a filter issue. By the way, the camera doesn't try to move the filter wheel.

As this seems to be some kind of firmware issue, would it be a good idea to do a firmware update ?

Julien

Why not ask them at ATIK.......

https://www.atik-cameras.com/qsi-core-astronomy-software/

I agree. Contact Atik support, they were able to help me with updating my firmware a few years back.

Pete

Yes, probably the best thing to do.

Julien

Solved !

Atik support suggested to try to update the firmware and it worked.

Julien

Good news? ? ?:-)

Hi Julien, do you still have the firmware file for your 683? I'm having issues with my 6162..
?

Jeff.
?
Do not attempt to install or update the FPGA or firmware for your 6162 with Julien’s firmware for his 683, AFAIK you’ll need the specific matching FPGA and firmware for the 6162, for which you’ll have to contact QSI/Atik support.
?
The camera firmware controls the bias voltages for the specific CCD sensor installed in the camera and you risk damaging the CCD permanently by attempting to install firmware for a different model, or a different revision of the firmware.
?
Hopefully QSI/Atik will provide the FPGA and firmware for you though most QSI users that I’ve kept in touch with in recent years have only been given the option to send the camera in for repair.

Will.
